Can you think of an example of a person who had a significant early childhood experience that impacted them in the future, whether good or bad?

GuestAugust 21, 2025 at 9:14 pmI have a personal friend who had abusive parents. They were inflicted not only by emotional abuse, but physical as well as subjected to substance abuse. As an adult, they made the choice to not have their own children unfortunately because of their childhood abuse.

Denise, your reflection highlights the profound impact of early experiences on adult choices. Thank you for sharing such a personal story.

GuestAugust 24, 2025 at 2:37 pmHello teacher that was always miserable in her class and she was always stressed out so the classroom environment wasn’t the best. She would always be yelling at the students even though they didn’t understand her.

GuestAugust 25, 2025 at 1:02 amI worked in an infant class room and we had a baby girl (I’m going to call her Mia for privacy) Mia was a VERY shy baby and would cry if any other baby came near her or if a teacher that wasn’t me or my lead came near her. We worked very hard to maintain a happy environment by smiling, compromising to encourage her to engage with others at her own pace, and ensuring she had as much consistency as possible. We never gave up on her. I went on maternity leave, but when I returned, she was in the toddler room, and she was THRIVING, she was talking, running around with friends, and loved everyone she met. I believe maintaining consistency and a happy, encouraging environment from such a young age helped her realize she was safe and could flourish!

Great example, Mary! Your dedication and the supportive environment clearly made a lasting positive impact on Mia’s development.

GuestAugust 26, 2025 at 8:48 pmI was impacted by having a very caring Kindergarten teacher. It was my first time being away from my mom. I had never been to preschool. I was also a very shy child. She made me feel seen and heard in a gentle way.

GuestAugust 28, 2025 at 7:50 pmIt always amazes me at what a smile can do to a stranger you meet out in public. They often look sad and depressed but as soon as you smile at them, they almost always smile back. Some people looked surprised that someone would smile at them!
-
Cherene, your observation highlights the profound impact of simple gestures like smiles. It’s a beautiful reminder of human connection!

GuestAugust 29, 2025 at 1:05 pmI had two teachers when I was entering lower elementary school. I remember them both vividly for opposite reasonings. The first I had for the first half of the year was quite strict, constantly shouting at a select few of us and certainly had her favorites. We had a substitute come in for a few days and she was always so happy and smiling and getting on our level to speak with us. I still remember 20 years later how much joy I felt when we were told she would remain our teacher for the rest of the year, and our original teacher would not be returning.
-
Great reflection, Kristina! Your experiences highlight the profound impact teachers can have on students’ emotional well-being and learning.

GuestAugust 30, 2025 at 2:28 amMy younger brother had difficulty with his speech when he was younger. His speech teacher was very patient and kind, she helped him overcome many hurdles. Due to his speech difficulties, he would get severely shy and nervous about what other people would think. Her having the patience to build trust with him helped my brother begin to open up to more people and make some more friends.
-
Selena, your example beautifully highlights the importance of patience and support in overcoming challenges. Great insight!

GuestAugust 30, 2025 at 2:27 pmOne of my friend’s children was born with some medical challenges and had to spend a lot of time in the hospital when she was young. My friend is super nurturing and supportive and has helped her navigate through school and life with her medical issues. They have involved her in activities that she was able to be successful in and gotten support in schooling when needed. She has now graduated from high school and will be attending a college close by. Because of my friends love and supportive nature, she has helped her daughter become extremely successful in her life.
-
Angela, your example beautifully illustrates the profound impact of nurturing and support during challenging early experiences. Well done!

GuestAugust 31, 2025 at 7:25 pmAs someone who was self-conscious of their speech impediment, it was great having a teacher recognize that I needed help and encourged me to see the speech pathologist. I could tell she genuinely cared as past teachers just said I’d grow out of it, but I was reaching the age where it began sticking, so I was grateful to have someone show they cared so much and wanted to help me.
-
Lisa, your reflection beautifully highlights the importance of supportive educators in shaping our confidence and addressing challenges. Great insight!
