Can you think of an example of a person who had a significant early childhood experience that impacted them in the future, whether good or bad?

I had a teacher who was always laughing. This has stuck with me even into my adulthood.

I had an amazing early childhood experience. My teachers were always smiling and warm. They are part of the reason I decided to become a teacher!

My preschool teacher is someone who sticks out in my mind! She was a kind, warm, and welcoming person. The tone in her voice was always sweet and she made everyone feel loved. Funny enough, when I started teaching, I taught at the preschool that I went to and that same teacher was still there!

Getting down to the childs level is very important to their sense of confidence and to know they are being heard. Make sure to greet them by their name and help them to join into the classroom activities when they enter the room.

We had a family in our program from birth-5 and they moved out of state. This summer they are back in our program and we haven’t seen them in years. Both boys recognized some of their teachers from the Infant and Toddler classrooms and smiled and gave hugs. Because of the relationships that the teachers created when the boys were younger, they felt safe and happy to be back! It was a great thing to see as a Supervisor!

I had a friend whose mother committed suicide when she was in middle school. She turned her grief into something positive. She grew up to become a counselor and a yoga instructor.

I had a teacher in 2nd grade who made such an impact on me. Her smiling face each day made such an difference and how engaged and how fun the class was each day. Even 30 years later, I still remember how she made me feel. Her attitude provided me with confidence and helped my growth tremendously.

there was an old coworker who use to be the co lead teacher in school age. This person was very kind hearted and sweet to the kiddos and staff. This teacher always had a smile. At this daycare, the director had a tough time being able to support the staff that were struggling with child who where misbehaving. It caused the teacher to lose their smile and even stopped coming into work.

I remember reading that Thomas Edison only became a genius because he was kicked out of school and homeschooled instead. Imagine how his teachers must have treated him & how important his mother’s nurturing was to his success!

I switched centers I was employed at, and one of the children from center one followed over to center 2. Watching the child at center one, where employee’s attitudes weren’t necessarily happy, effected that child everyday poorly, crying, screaming, anti-social. However, the change in centers along with polices that child began to flourish and thrive from the teachers having positive attitudes towards all of the children and their jobs.

My daughters first day of kindergarten, she was petrified. I left her there, knowing the teacher would help her. My daughter didn’t want to go to circle time so the teacher said whoever comes her I’ll tell you a kindergarten secret. My daughter stood there by herself, too scared to go over there and missed the big kindergarten secret. She is 12 years old and still talks about it to this day, wondering what the secret was. 🙁

I am sorry for your loss. I can relate on the since that my daughter was 13 yrs old when her father tragically passed away three days before her 14th birthday and a month before starting high school . She blamed herself for the loss and became very upset. It wasn’t until being in counseling that things came to the surface. Her counselor was very nice. She always had a smile and allowing her to talk helped shape my daughter. Life without her dad has been hard especially when she got married a few months ago.

No one has shared a good or bad experience with me regarding their Early Childhood years that impacted their life. I will say my son’s kindergarten year was a bit hard for him being that he has autism and it was hard for him to adjust. I think the experience made him not like school. The teacher was trying her best as a sub in Special Education but he didn’t enjoy it and I can tell the job was a bit overwhelming for her. His first grade year was a bit better but he still does not enjoy a full day of school. He now does half day at school and a half day at ABA therapy and it helps him not get so overwhelmed with school.
