Make sure you always return a child’s “serve”. Constant supervision is important going to the child’s level to communicate and walking around the classroom to speak to them instead of sitting and yelling

Advice I would give early learning providers when it comes to creating relationships with the children they care for is to create a space where the children feel safe to be themselves. Always come into work radiating calm and peaceful energy because the children feed off the energy you bring into the classroom.

I would say listen more, and talk less. adults tend to want to over talk and explain its nice to give children the floor to talk and express themselves.

I suggest social activity games that allows the children to interact and express who they are group activities. The would be fun for the student as well as the teacher

My advice: slow down and be present. Get on their level, listen without rushing, and show them you care through small, everyday moments. Building trust takes time, but those connections make all the difference.

The best advice is taking the time to properly get to know each child, their personality and likes and dislikes, this will make them feel seen and supported by you and they will have an easier time trusting you and forming a connection.

Build trust first then afterwards make sure to listen intently to any concerns and observe carefully how the child interacts with different peers and in different environments.

Building connection with kids takes time and patience. It’s easy to get frustrated as an ECE, but it’s important to remember that kids, just like us, are figuring out how to be people in real time. Getting to know them, realize that they look to you for help, comfort, security, information, etc., can be really helpful for building relationships. We are the child’s gateway to the world. It’s beautiful to remember!

I would advise them to show genuine interest in what children express and engage in “serve and return” interactions to help build connections with children in their classroom. It’s also important to create a positive learning environment that is welcoming and encourages them to learn and grow. Make sure you are getting down on their level, actively listening to them, and be present in your interactions with them.
