Listen more than you speak, follow their lead during play, and show curiosity about their ideas. When children feel heard and valued, trust grows — and that trust becomes the foundation for learning, cooperation, and emotional growth. Small moments of connection can make a big difference in a child’s day.

MemberOctober 22, 2025 at 7:54 pmMy advice would be to slow down and be fully present with each child. Building real connections starts with listening, observing, and showing genuine interest in what matters to them. Get down on their level, make eye contact, and respond with warmth and patience. Small gestures—like remembering their favorite toy, celebrating their efforts, or giving them time to share their thoughts—help children feel valued and understood. I would also remind other providers that consistency and trust are key. Children connect best when they know they’re safe and respected, even when they make mistakes. Use positive guidance, empathy, and humor to strengthen relationships. Most importantly, lead with kindness—when children feel loved and accepted, meaningful learning and growth naturally follow.

Connections with children come naturally through daily conversation and interaction where the provider shows interest, care, and attention to the children they work with, and responds to their needs.

MemberOctober 28, 2025 at 4:53 amThe advice that I would give to another early learning provider for making connections with children is to focus on creating a safe and trusting environment through consistent routines, having one on one conversations as we engage in learning with children and understanding their needs. Having positive interactions and building a relationship with both children and parents can create a sense of security, a sense of comfort, and a sense of trust knowing that you have created that bond with the child and their caregiver.

MemberOctober 28, 2025 at 3:46 pmI think building connections is all about creating a real relationship with each student. Engage with them on the things that they like. Ask questions about their lives and what activities they are choosing and why. Show an interest on the things that they are doing. This way, you have a closer relationship with them.

Great insights, JP! Engaging with students’ interests truly fosters meaningful connections and enhances their learning experience.

interact with the children. read with them, color with them, get on the floor and play with them, ask them questions “what did you do that was fun today?” “do you like to play…. when you are at home?” just questions to get them rambling and that make them feels safe, comfortable and encouraged when they talk to you and that also help you build a relationship and learn more about the child.

Great insights, Rylee! Engaging actively and asking open-ended questions truly fosters trust and connection with children.

Listen attentively: Give children your full attention and let them express themselves without interrupting.Spend one-on-one time: Even a few minutes of focused interaction (“special time”) helps children feel valued.Follow their interests: Let children choose activities and explore what excites them.Be consistent and reliable: Children build trust when caregivers respond predictably and kindly.Use positive communication: Smile, use encouraging words, and show empathy.Respect individual differences: Every child is unique, and cultural or personality differences affect how connections are made.Key idea: Building connections is about showing children that they are heard, understood, and cared for.In my opinion, best ways
