MemberAugust 26, 2025 at 8:18 pmIt may sound cliché, but take a lap. When I’m overwhelmed, I inform my supervisor, step outside, and start walking. As I walk, I try to be intentional about calming myself down and taking deep breaths. By the time I come back around to the door, I feel much better.

MemberAugust 28, 2025 at 12:32 amYes, one helpful technique I’ve found is taking a few minutes for deep breathing or short mindfulness breaks to reset my energy. I also like to go for walks or do light exercise, which helps release tension. Talking with supportive coworkers, friends, or family about the day also helps me process emotions and not carry the stress home.

Working with children is rewarding but can be emotionally demanding, so it’s important to manage stress. Techniques that help include mindful breathing, taking short breaks to stretch or walk, engaging in physical activity, journaling or reflecting on experiences, talking with supportive colleagues, and maintaining a self-care routine with enough sleep, healthy eating, and hobbies outside of work. These strategies help maintain balance and stay energized for the children in your care.

One of the techniques I’ve discovered for alleviating stress is taking a moment to pause and count to ten. As I slowly count, I feel my body begin to relax, each number grounding me further in the present moment. This simple practice allows me to regain my composure and refocus my thoughts, helping me to approach whatever I’m doing with a clearer, more peaceful mindset.
-
Great reflection, Sarah! Your counting technique is a powerful way to manage stress and remain present.
