1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I learned that there are very specific requirements that need to be met to be compliant with what’s needed for Washington state.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? WAC 110-300-0340 Expulsion, it was surprising in a way that I did not know so much was required to expel a child and what needed to be provided to the parents.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I can see how the WACs would influence the day-to-day depending on what goes on daily at your specific facility and all of it helping make sure that its being done in a proper professional way and that everyone is safe and healthy in your care.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? – What i discovered about the WAC while i was completing this activity was that this is very overwhelming. Every WAC goes into depth and explains everything in a child care that there is to know.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? – I wasn’t really impressed by any of them in specific i was just mostly impressed that they really go into depth and how much a provider can get from everyone of them. Any question i can have about the kids can be answered by the WACs.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? – On a day-to-day practice in caring for children the WACs will influence me positively because it will help me to keep the children in my care healthy, safe and help them learn a lot in a positive environment.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
I discovered that there were a ton of them, it was pretty overwhelming; however, they were all laid out clearly and the explanations that the handbook provided were very helpful.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
I wasn’t really surprised with any of them, but what I was surprised was with how many there were and how in-depth they were. I can clearly see the thought went into them and how they play a role in practice.

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
I can! The WACs were created over time and with the experience of many others in early learning programs. The WACs were clear and to the point and many I can see them playing a part daily.

1. I did not expect so many regulations for childcare and caregivers. But after 6 weeks of experience, I can see how important they are.

2. I was surprised by animal regulations.

3. I already can see how WAC regulations help me to be better caregiver for kids. Also, more understanding about hygiene routine in childcare center

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? While completing the activity I discovered how easy it is to look for information within the different sections.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? One thing I was surprised about was the process of changing early learning program space or location. It is less complicated than I thought.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, I think referring to the WACs in day-to-day should be done

1. I discovered how in-depth the WAC regulations are, as I was not exactly expecting them to be so organized and concise. I presumed that there were many requirements to being considered compliant with Washington State’s requirements, but after reading through I have realized it is even more extensive than I had previously believed.
2. I was surprised by WAC 110-300-0335, as I didn’t think that this was legally permitted. I was mainly taken aback by the depth of the WACs themselves more so than the individual regulations.
3. I can see how the WACs influence my day-to-day practice in child care. As child care providers, I feel that we use our best judgement and previous knowledge to better gauge a situation and come up with the most efficient solution. Although instinct may be a helper, I feel that these guidelines truly help on a daily basis as we have signs, or reminders on the wall to slightly assist at times.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? It was very interesting to see all the record keeping that is required for all the different things. I did not expect some records to be kept for as long as they were, like lead paint tests.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was suprised to read in WAC 110-300-0356 A child with special needs who requires individualized super- vision pursuant to WAC 110-300-0300 does not count in the staff-to- child ratio.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, All of the WAC’s help influence how we interact with children every day. What is and is not allowed or professional.

Yes the WAC influences how the children should be treated and what you should and shouldn’t do it definitely will help treat these kids with the upmost kindness and on top of that ensure their safety

I discovered that the WACs organized rather intuitively. I expected to have to comb through different subsections before locating the correct WAC, but that was not the case. They were generally in the first place I looked.

I was surprised by WAC 110-300-0155. Our center does not have screen time, apart from the occasional yoga video for the 3-6 children. I don’t disagree with it, but I wouldn’t have thought there was a regulation specifically banning screen time for children under two.

The WACs are so thorough and specific they are going to influence most of my practice in caring for young children. I can refer to them if I have a question about what to do in a specific situation.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that the website of WACs is very easy to navigate. I feel now confident using the WACs to answer any questions I may have and help me grow in my learning.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I wasn’t super surprised by any one specific WAC, but it was interesting how in depth this does go. I enjoy that when learning but I will definitely have to review it numerous times to understand each regulation.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? This will definitely impact and influence my day-to-day activities because now I understand clear procedures that I will follow.

1- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

The WAC’s are very in depth and seem to be edited and changed somewhat frequently (every few years or so).

2- Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

WAC 110-300-0025 surprised me because there are quite a few different ways that a company can be exempt. I would have expected there to be less ways to be exempt as to make it so more companies are certified.

3- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

I can see how they would influence a day-to-day practice while caring for children because there are many different guidelines to keep in mind when working and as well as many different requirements to have completed.

For some reason, it will not let me download Handout B-2, Google message keeps saying too many have been trying to download this.

I have however been going on a WAC hunt already on my own!

1. I discovered how important it is in the state of WA to know the law and requirements because it helps to guide you as a Early childhood educator. I appreciated reading through actual laws and policies to understand why I am required to do what has been laid out both in this course and on the DCYF website.

2. I was surprised by a lot of the WAC’s as I was originally licensed in the state of Wisconsin. I was surprised by the general education requirements for some roles as I was prequalified in WI.

3. I definitely see how it will impact me day to day. Again, it was presented why certain requirements must be met. In that way, I can reference that when making decisions or speaking with families etc.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered how in-depth all of the WACs are and how they go through every single kind of situation that might occur and how you deal with them.

Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was not surprised by any of the WACs specifically but more of the detail that goes into each one especially because I did not know about a lot of them even though I have worked with kids multiple times. So I believe it is a good guideline to know.

Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I do see how it would influence because like I said in the previous question, I have worked with kids before but I now see a more secure way of reacting to certain situations.
