    1. Something that I discovered about the WACs was how detailed each one was. Each one was extremely specific.

    2. Nothing surprised me too much, I understood why each one is there and they all make sense to me.

I could see that each day these WACs would influence our day to day routine and </font>requirements<font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”> for how we go about the facility- which goes for every other child-care facility as well.</font>

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? They were very specific and detailed. I expected for most of it to be about your dealings with children but there was so much more that had to do with the behind the scenes stuff, such as what items need to posted in the center.
    2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I wasn’t really surprised by anything because my Mom was a Director while I was growing up, so I heard her talking about a lot of these things before.
    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, I can see how they will influence your day-to-day practice while caring for children. There are a lot of big and small rules that you need to take into consideration while dealing with children and parents. You have to follow these rules to make sure that you are putting the children’s health and safety first.

i discovered there is a wide variety of WACs and they cover such specific topics. i wasn’t expecting there to be that many.

I was surprised by the ratio of child to adult, i was expected a lower number for all age groups

i can see how this would effect the way i run a classroom because it helps guide me in the right direction in terms of keeping the children and myself safe.

    1. I discovered that the requirements needed to be in compliance with Washington States standards are very detailed. They cover a wide variety of circumstances that leaves little room for just guessing. I’m glad to hear we have our children’s best interests at heart.

    2. I saw someone else say this but I completely agreed, I was surprised to see we could physically restrain a child if there’s a risk to the safety of the child or the children in the area. I fully believed no physical restraint was aloud.

    3. I definitely see the WACs influencing my day to day at work. They create a step by step plan for almost all situations in the workplace and should be followed for our safety and the safety of the Children.

While reviewing the WACs, I learned they cover regulations for early learning programs in Washington State, from licensing requirements to health and safety standards. None of the regulations surprised me, as they prioritize safety and quality. Adhering to these rules will directly influence my daily practices, ensuring I provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children I care for, while also maintaining professionalism and accountability.

When reading the WAC’s I realized that a few of the childcare centers that I’ve worked at in the last 35 years have presented WAC codes as the centers policy so I didn’t always recognize their origin.

Some of the things that surprised me were the amount of detail that pertains specifically to director’s and owners of family in-home centers.

The WAC codes, while they do apply to the work I do in the kitchen and the snacks that are served, don’t affect what I do in the classroom as I don’t work in a classroom.

    1. I discovered that the WACs are very detailed and that there are requirements for just about anything at early learning programs, like keeping a cleaning log for large carpets.
    2. I was surprised to read about licensing requirements for programs that provide overnight childcare because I’ve just never really heard of that.
    3. Reading and understanding the WACs may help me be more thoughtful and confident when making decisions at work, since I have a clear, written guideline to refer to.

I discovered that there are a lot of WAC regulations that need to be followed. I feel that when people first start out in early childhood education, they need to read over the WAC.

I noticed that the WACs were very thorough about the ways we interact with the children and create safe spaces for them. I wasn’t surprised by anything in particular. They are parameters for healthy and safe environments and are not only applicable but important for day care providers to use.
