I discovered that for any licensed childcare center or entity must be licensed by the early learning department. Including anyone who is an assistant teacher and above must be licensed and receive their certificate within 5 years of working at the establishment. I was not surprised by any of the WACs, I found that all of the items listed were congruent with how a center must run. I do see how they will affect my day to day life at work because I understand what expectations the licensing office has for our age groups and etc.

Most of my findings of the WACs didn’t surprise me. I think this because your taking care of a lot of children there has to be certain protocols to make sure all students are safe and have access to what they need. I read over the restraint, ratio, and allergy tabs. There where some parts that where confusing because of the wording but i was able to figure it out and understand it. In the ratio file i was wondering if ratio c hangers based on age and needs?

WACs were an auxiliary of the Army, meaning they would receive

living quarters, uniforms, pay, and food, but would not receive

overseas pay, life insurance, and death benefits. Yes I

was. Routines build self-confidence, curiosity, social skills, self-

control, communication skills and more. Routines create

manageable expectations that allow children to build emotional

resilience, such as saying goodbye to parents or carers each

    morning at drop-off.

some WACs that surprised me were the different beds required for each center and the rules and regulations for any child care provider and how they can help report any issues in their center or feel any mistreatment to the child.

I learned that wacs is kind of strict and has a reason for every standard in place to help protect the children. And I also learned that there is a lot of them so there will probably be a response for most of them.

I was thoroughly surprised by the restraint because some kids really can put themselves in danger and need to be restrained while other kids need to kind of figure it out for themselves and choose to listen.

I feel like wacs is going to help me be able to learn more patience with the children and challenge myself to find a better way to speak to these kids with different strategies!

    1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I learned that there are a lot of requirements that need to be followed in order to be compliant with the standards for Washington state. There were definitely more than I thought there would be too! But it’s great to have the knowledge of learning these to help better the learning curve for children!

I didn’t realize how many requirements there are to run a daycare center/Early Learning Development Center. There are so many moving parts that it is insane. It also seems like it is a lot to be a center director.

    1. What I discovered about the WAC’s was there are many steps to complete before even going into the classroom, there was nothing really new I had learned, just a recap of how important it is to have all your documents for an early childhood education setting.

    2. I can see how the WAC’s impact my day to day activities and relationships with the children and their families for sure! It clarifies the importance of confidentiality and to go through all required licensing/training.

This WAC just a bit surprised me as I did not know that this was allowed but this WAC is also can be a very fine line and educators also need to be careful with this WAC. However, it is a bit of a relief that physically restraining a child is within caution an okay thing to do if the safety of others is at stake and the policy procedures for this are taken.
    3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Truly, I can see how these WACs influence the day-to-day structure of your day depending on the situations at hand, there are steps in place for everyone in education to follow and stand by to keep everyone safe, healthy, and learning in a positive environment.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?

I discovered that many of these policies are similar to policies in behavioral health centers.

Were you surprised by any of the WACs?

I was surprised but happy to see the vast definitions that WAC’s describe as terms often used in our positions included the LGBTQ+ terms.

Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?

I can definitely see how the WAC’s will come into play each day I come into work because they are basically the groundwork for how we are expected to be and it’s important that we are all on the same page.

    1. All the WAC’s cover different topics. It is important to be associated and familiar with all of them, considering they all can have a different application. There are quite a few, so it is also important to refresh them at least once a week, in my opinion.

    2. No, all the WAC’s are very straightforward, and more so then not, common sensical.

    3. Yes, they should always be kept in the back of your mind, for daily reference purposes. Having the knowledge of the WAC’s will also help you asses day to day issues that may arise.

  • 1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
  • That even though there is a lot of codes and regulations, it is in an easy to use/find format. Although, i found it confusing on my worksheet for the “Going on a WAC Hunt”, it says that each WAC has a question. I never found a question but assumed it meant the subject title of the particular WAC#.
  • 2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
  • I was not surprised by the WACs but was a little overwhelmed with how many different ones there were.
  • 3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
  • Yes, even though alot are for the ELP provider such as the codes and regulations, there are some WACs for the teachers and staff of how to conduct ourselves around the children and the training we must have done.
