Going on a WAC Hunt

1. While completing this assignment I discovered about the WACs is how in depth they are which is very useful to have so there is no confusion. I also enjoyed the definitions provided since it helped me out.
2.I was surprised by a few sections of the WACs such as how early the stars training requirement is but other than that everything else seemed reasonable requirements from the staff and the program.
3. Yes I can see how the WACs requirements will influence my day to day practice with caretaking because it provided me with further information on how to properly take care of children.

MemberApril 23, 2024 at 9:45 pmI discovered that there is an answer to just about every question I might have (aside from a few center-specific) in the WAC’s. I just have to do a little search (command F !)
I was surprised at how many definitions of vocabulary were available. I guess I didn’t realize just how much “lingo” we use!
I think we all use the WACs in our day to days, from the way that we’re trained to the way that we interact with children and families. I will definitely use it to keep up on practices and to answer any questions that come up!

MemberApril 24, 2024 at 5:49 pm1. I discovered what WACS were (I am new to childcare) and the intricacies of what goes into getting a facility/teachers licensed. The WACs were very thorough and detailed which can be overwhelming for folks who are trying to get licensed or fulfill the requirements in their facility.
2. Yes and no, I would often come across a WAC in my reading that I would have never thought of to include, but makes sense and is an important requirement.
3. I can see that WACs play an important role in standardizing the care of children within different facilities or environments. They can help me understand the what is expected of me and other child care providers regardless of location.

MemberApril 25, 2024 at 6:25 am1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
What i discovered about the WACs while completing the activity is that their are a lot of regulations and steps to create a safe and high quality learning environment.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
Yes, i was a surprised how in depth and specific the WACs were and was surprised to see one that talked about animals and pets. i was not expecting this one but after further reading i understood why it was included.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day to day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
Yes i think the WACs will effect my day to day interaction with kids in a positive way. This is because i am now more aware on specific steps i need to take, steps i would have not though about prior to reading the WACs. Fallowing these steps will make me more careful in how i interact with the kids to ensure the kids best chance in there learning and development. In general i think the WACs are a good source of information and i will continue to go back to them to further my understanding and improvement as a chid care provider.

MemberApril 29, 2024 at 12:19 am- I discovered how much groundwork was covered in WAC. I didn’t realize how many things had to happen for certain WAC’s to be put in place.
- I wasn’t surprised of any of the WAC’s they all made sense why they were set in place. I was more surprised by some of the stories that were inspired to make them.
- Yes, all the WAC’s are used in my everyday life at the day-care. I cannot think of one WAC that hasn’t been used at some point.

What did you discover about WACs while completing this activity? what i learned was that there are lots of requirements that need to be followed in order to be compliant with Washington state standards.
were you surprised by any WACs? I wasn’t surprised by really any of the WACs but i didn’t know that physical restraint must only be used if a child’s safety or others safety is threatened. This is good to know incase its needed to be used in a situation. WAC 110-300-0335 (1)
Can you see how the WACs will be used in your day – to – day activities? Why or why not? I can see how the WACs will be used in your day – to – day activities depending on what’s going on and the structure that’s being laid out for you.

MemberMay 1, 2024 at 11:46 pm1. The WAC’s are very straightforward and detailed, which I think is important. They are specific enough that there isn’t a ton of gray area for understanding, and I think that makes them a lot easier to understand and enforce effectively.
2. Not really! I think they’re all important to consider
3. Definitely! I think they’re all necessary when caring for children and working in an early learning environment.

MemberMay 3, 2024 at 4:29 am- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? – I learned that a lot of training is involved when working at a child care facility.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? – It was interesting to see how each one works.
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? – Yes. In child care, we need to know how to care for the basic needs of the children. we also need to know how to communicate with the parents. We need to be able to know how to deal with certain situations in order to keep the children safe.

MemberMay 5, 2024 at 9:19 pm1.) I noticed the WACs have way more detail to them than I had anticipated but overall inculdes very good information
2.) I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs because they all seem like common sense but just written out to explain everything better.
3.) I can totally see how these will help us become better educators for young children in early learning programs. They show us ways to appropriately help students in specific situations.

MemberMay 6, 2024 at 4:04 am1: while researching for the B-2 page i learned that the WACs are a conclusive and inclusive list of expectations, requirements, and standards that are all there to ensure the safety of the people in care as well as the accountability of people providing care.
2: none of the specific WACs were surprising by themselves. What did surprise me was how in depth they were as my experience in working childcare in other states was not so comprehensive. I find it rather refreshing and it brings a level of peace of mind that as a parent; i wouldn’t have gotten in my old places.
3: The WACs seem as if they would influence everyone working in this field. maybe not as individual rules but at the level of accountability expected of you.

I discovered that there are a lot more WACs than I thought when I was first reading about them. There are WACs for intent and authority, child outcomes, family engagement and partnerships, professional development training and requirements, environment, interactions and curriculum, and program administration and oversight. I was a little surprised of the expulsion policy and child restraint policy because I have never worked with children in an environment where these policies were put in place. I am starting to see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children because it clearly lays out every policy that I will have to adhere to in my work environment.

While reviewing the WACs, I found that they encompass a wide range of regulations governing early learning and childcare, covering areas such as health and safety standards, staff qualifications, program administration, and child development. The level of detail and specificity within the WACs underscores the importance of compliance and adherence to standards in providing quality care for children.
WAC 110-300-0335 (1) Physical restraint didn’t surprise me, but it was helpful to know what is deemed appropriate when a child poses a danger to children around them and their caregivers. I appreciated the thoroughness of the regulations and how they address various aspects of childcare. The attention to detail in areas such as health and safety requirements demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the well-being of children in childcare settings.
The WACs will undoubtedly influence day-to-day practice in caring for children by providing a framework for maintaining safety, quality, and professionalism. For example, regulations regarding staff qualifications and ratios will directly impact staffing decisions and supervision practices. Health and safety standards will inform procedures for maintaining a clean and secure environment, as well as protocols for handling emergencies or illnesses. Additionally, requirements for program administration and documentation will shape how daily activities are planned, recorded, and communicated with families. Overall, the WACs serve as essential guidelines for promoting the optimal development and well-being of children in early learning and childcare settings.
