Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
No, not really as this is a new area of work for me, all of the guidelines were more of an informational tools.

Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice caring for children? Why or why not?
Yes, definitely WACs will influence my day to day practice caring for children as these will be used as a standard referring tools to handle certain situations like physically restraining a child when they are a threat to other children’s safety.

1.) I discovered that WAC’s have an extensive list of requirements outlining the requirements and expectations of all early learning providers and early learning providers that work from home as well.
2.) I was surprised to see the licensed early learning providers that work from home can only work with 12 kids at a time.
3.) Yes, I can see how WAC’s will influence day-to-day care practices. These codes ensure that licensing policies are being met, programs are being routinely reviewed, cleanliness habits are being conducted and also outline expectation of how to collaborate with families to ensure that children are getting the best proper care and education.

While completing the activity, I discovered that the WACs (Washington Administrative Code) provide comprehensive guidelines and regulations for the management of childcare facilities. I was surprised by the level of detail and specificity in the WACs, covering various aspects such as health and safety, staff qualifications, curriculum, and licensing requirements. These regulations ensure that childcare providers maintain high standards in delivering quality care and support for children.
I can definitely see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. The WACs provide clear guidelines on safety protocols, health, and hygiene practices, and curriculum planning. Following these regulations will help create a safe and nurturing environment for the children in my care. The WACs also emphasize the importance of maintaining appropriate staff-child ratios and ensuring staff members meet the required qualifications, contributing to the overall quality of care provided. By following the WACs, I can ensure that I am meeting the necessary standards and providing the best possible care for the children.

1. While completing the activity, I discovered that there are quite a bit more requirements meant to be followed in order to follow the standards.
2. I don’t think that any surprised me, as they all seem reasonable ways to make sure children are kept safe.
3. Yes I can. I can see this because all of these requirements are very necessary to make sure the children are in good hands. Although they didn’t surprise me, some of these requirements were new to me, so they are a very important matter to learn about.

1. I learned there was a lot more requirements to be up to standard and the thoroughness of them all will help everyone be more prepared in this line of work!
2. None of them were too surprising as they are put in place to help keep children safe!
3. Yes I believe it will affect my day to day, I’m definitely going to be implementing them at my work and I believe all of these are a great way of keeping children safe!

What did you discover about the WACS while completing the activity?
While doing the activity, I discovered that there are many rules that early learning programs and educators need to follow for the benefit of the children. I liked how the WAC guidelines were explained very clearly and prioritized the health and safety of the children.
Were you surprised by any of the WACS?
I was surprised by the definition of WAC when it mentioned terms such as asexual and bisexual. I was surprised that the WAC defined those terms because I feel like those kinds of terms are not associated with early learning, but liked how the WAC mentioned these terms because I think it is very important for educators to be educated in gender and sexuality. I also in general really liked this WAC section because it had clear definitions of terms that I was not familiar with.
Can you see how the WACS will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
I think the WACS will influence my day-to-day practices in caring for children because they are very helpful bits of information. For example, I think it is important to know the floor plans and emergency routes and exits and know where the emergency routes are posted in the early learning program. I also think it will act as a guide as to what to expect in all early learning programs such as licensed educators and first aid kits.

1) I discovered that these guidelines are super helpful when trying to apply them in the classroom.
2) All of the WAC guidelines were not very surprising but I appreciate how much detail there is in each one. It makes understanding them a lot easier.3) The WAC guidelines are really important in day to day life because they create a standard for childcare across the state. By knowing and implementing the guidelines you can ensure proper care for the children and their parents.

1. I learned how incredibly in-depth these WAC’s are. I did not expect them to be so decisive.
2. I was surprised at the fact that you are not supposed to restrain a child unless they are going to be hurt.
3. I do realize how helpful these regulations are to a classroom environment.

There are definitely more WACs than I thought
Yeah, some of them are pretty impressive
Yes, definitely this is gonna help me a lot, because I’m learning the correct way to work with children, and learning a better way to coexist with my coworkers in a good environment for us and the children.

After completing the hunt I discovered I could quickly find the specific WAC’s in the doc “Foundational Quality Standards for Early Learning Programs” take note of the heading it was listed under which matched one of the titles in table contents in the CCEL guidebook, then I scrolled till I saw the exact WAC highlighted in blue. I was surprised after reading the Intent and Authority section that DCYF was established less than 5 yrs ago with significant increase in government oversight and new guiding principles. Now having an awareness of WAC’s I will refer to the guidebook for help when issues arise in practice in order to be insured I’m in compliance with the my positions expectation.
