I think every element is very important, but one that stands out to me is the sensory area. Not every child has the opportunity to freely explore different sensory activities in their home environment. This activity is awesome in helping children explore/experiment/ experience many different things in a safe way.

I think it is especially important to have an area of the environment where children can go if they need some quiet alone time. The day can be loud, tiring, and overwhelming. By providing children a quiet, comfortable area, to take some time for themselves, children are learning how to listen to their bodies and respond to their emotions in a healthy manner, as well as feel their emotions in a safe space with a trusted caregiver nearby.

I think a warm and inviting room with lots of vibrant colors are important, the child should feel as comfortable as possible and like they can be free of all judgement or harm. Somewhere they can always look forward to coming back to. This can create trust and spark creativity with the children.

Vibrant colors are and exciting, however bold colors can also be a distraction for young children. Be sure to balance the mood in the room.

I think good organization of a classroom is key, making sure clean up time is efficient. Making sure that the quiet spaces are away from what can be typically louder spaces such as blocks is also good since some children can react negatively to loud noises.

I think that safety is a premium component of a good early learning center. In the planning and implementing the layout and materials in a classroom, I would want to get down on my hands and knees to view things from the child’s perspective for dangers and also for ascetics of the environment.

I think that it’s really important to have good sight lines. It is also important that the kids feel comfortable and that they have access to all the toys.
