Keeping children healthy and safe
-
Recognizing the subtle signs of abuse and neglect. Not everything is as obvious as a black eye. Being able to pick up social and emotional clues would be a great tool in identifying abuse and neglect

I am worried about how to proceed in an emergency situation, such as an intruder or a serious playground injury. I am interested in learning more about how to maintain calm and safety in these situations.

My biggest worry about keeping children healthy and safe are that sometimes even when I and other childcare providers are doing all that we can in order to keep the children healthy and safe, sometimes that is not enough. Medical emergencies happen when children are in the care of others and it is a fear of mine to be caring for a child who is suffering a medical emergency that is out of my abilility to help with. Of course we know to call 911 when something wrong is happening with a child but when you are in that moment, its can sometimes be very shocking to be around. It’s important to know what to do when an emergency is taking place with a child. My son suffered a febrile seizure at daycare a few months back and It has really put the childs health and the importance of letting parents know when the child is not acting like their normal self. This medical emergency was 100% out of the hands of the caregivers who were with him, however the way they responded to this emergency was SO VERY IMPORTANT. Luckily these chidcare providers were attentive during naptime and instantly knew when they needed to call 911. I am forever grateful for his teachers who could have potentially saved his life.

MemberJuly 29, 2024 at 7:54 pmMy biggest worry about keeping children healthy and safe is ensuring that every potential hazard is properly identified and managed to prevent any injuries or health issues. This includes not only physical safety but also emotional well-being. I’m most interested in learning comprehensive strategies for accident prevention, effective emergency response protocols, and ways to create an environment that supports both the physical and emotional safety of the children in my care.

My biggest worry about keeping children safe is the world we have not feeling like the space you have is safe enough for the children to learn and al the hate and violence in the world and not feeling like the world is safe enough for the children

MemberAugust 1, 2024 at 9:35 pmI have a deep seeded fear of children choking. While logically, I know it will likely never come up, I still have it. I choked twice as a child, and now I fear it with my own children and my daycare kiddos.

MemberAugust 5, 2024 at 10:15 pmMy biggest worry was “active shooter” scenarios. The security issues at schools scare me to death! Another worry is a person interpretting something I do as not safe because I have witnessed on 3 occasions incidents at schools.

My biggest worry is just the unknown and things I didn’t think of before. I worry about not acting quickly enough.

MemberAugust 7, 2024 at 5:13 amI am sad that these worries are at times so strong, and they present themselves at unexpected moments. I find it interesting that these types of extreme events are so unlikely and have no personal impact on me the people with whom I relate and interact and upon those with whom they relate.

MemberAugust 7, 2024 at 7:48 pmMy concern is very great when I have to keep children safe and free from danger, because today our society is very violent and we often see shootings in schools, and children are the most vulnerable. That is why it is very important to practice fire evacuations, during an emergency, earthquakes or how to stay hidden when a stranger enters the daily care area.
