- A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every school. AGREE 100%
- Families should not be expected to be involved in classroom activities. – I do agree, but I also believe families should be expected to engage/give attention to the subject.
- All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs. – I agree, but it should be only taken to the extent of what they are comfortable with and what works for them.
- Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child. “UM, that’s not our call. We need to work with the families we are given. If this person is important and in this child’s life, you need to learn to communicate with them.” I 100% agree with this response.
- My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests. – I disagree, breaking out of their comfort zones is what teaching is all about.
- Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up. “NO. diversity is everything that affects they child.” 100% !!!
- Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country. -I sort of agree, it is a good resource but shouldn’t be the main.
- The United States should discontinue relations with countries that engage in human rights violations. “UM, this is not the place for this discussion. As a professional I need to keep my person political believes to myself.” !00% agree with this response. Political topics are not for our workplace.

The exercise of sorting statements based on our agreement levels and identifying the factors influencing our points of view was a thought-provoking and self-reflective activity. It highlighted the diversity of perspectives that can exist within a group and emphasized the importance of understanding the various factors that shape our beliefs. It also underlined the potential for constructive dialogue and learning when individuals with differing viewpoints engage in open and respectful conversations. Sharing this activity on our community forum could spark insightful discussions and encourage participants to consider the influence of their backgrounds and experiences on their perspectives, ultimately promoting a deeper understanding of one another’s viewpoints and fostering empathy and growth.

- Families should not be expected to be involved in classroom activities. (Agree) It is important for families to know what their child is learning, I also feel that it will help the child’s confidence in learning.
- All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs.(Strongly Agree) I strongly agree with accommodating kids with special needs. everybody learns differently.
- Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child.(Disagree) I believe extended family can help in some ways.
- My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests.(Disagree) I feel it would be hard. They should all learn the same subject together so they are all on the same page as well.
- Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up.(Agree) Diversity is a range of ethnicity, religious or ethical value system.
- Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country.(Disagree) I’m half on this, yes I believe on certain topics, yes but on others, no. Don’t get me wrong the media can be both good and bad. sometimes they don’t portray things as they seem to be.
- The United States should discontinue relations with countries that engage in human rights violations. (I’m unsure)

MemberSeptember 13, 2023 at 10:02 pmMany people forget to really listen. To really listen carefully. Think before you respond. Some people quickly respond before a person has even had a chance to finish what they were saying. Sometimes people just need you to listen and not necessarily have an answer to fix something. Often responding by saying that I hear you and I understand what you are saying. Remember to think.

Others may say, I hear what you are saying but this is how I feel or what I believe. Whenever possible, try and converse about things. Be respectful of others opinions. Listen and Learn.

POINT OF VIEW
· I come from a “standard” family makeup, a mother and father and two siblings however my parents divorced in my teen years and never expanded our family beyond that.
· I married someone from a very mixed family, with half, step and adopted siblings.
· I went to Christian bible camps during the summers, but never engaged in weekly church activities.
· My family has opposing political views from me.
My views have definitely evolved over my lifetime and as I interact with more people from different backgrounds. It is very beneficial to have a trusted person in your life that can help you challenge your perspective and grow.

Extended family members are important in many communities and are considered as Aunties or Uncles or “play” cousins or god-parents. Reconizing the different dimensions of family acknowledges de-centers that there is only one type of “right” family.

Culture is an integrated set of beliefs and knowledge that guide children in how to behave and interact within their family and community.
