MemberDecember 11, 2023 at 7:01 amMake the classroom a fun and active space. Use toys and activities suitable for the children’s age. Plan routines with play breaks and outdoor time. Create a positive atmosphere and celebrate their achievements. Keep parents in the loop for consistent support. Remember, a balanced mix of learning and play is the key for the children.

MemberDecember 15, 2023 at 4:33 amTo make a fun, active, and developmentally appropriate classroom, I suggest creating spaces for activities that children can do, offering times for activities that will engage physical activity, and making learning objectives fun by turning them into games or entertaining tasks.

Once you have a good idea of the kiddos in your classroom, the ages, needs, abilities, ect you and curate an environment for the children to thrive.
This can include designated play area, as well as an indoor climbing area/slide of sorts. Young kids need so much activity I am a big advocate for indoor play areas. -
The most important thing is to have a classroom appropriate for the age of the children you are going to have, and for that you have to inform yourself, investigate, take different ideas and adapt them for each space with the resources for the age of each child.

MemberDecember 19, 2023 at 8:14 pmDance parties are always a fun and physical activity. It’s my favorite way to get active. Especially saying “let’s get out our wiggles!” then start it off by doing it yourself. Or games like red light green light or a scavenger hunt.
-
Greet the students when they walk in, do fun activities such as singing, dancing, reading and painting with them, talk to the children and get to know them.

Provide a Variety of Active Play Opportunities:
- Designate specific areas in the classroom for active play, such as a gross motor play area with climbing structures, balance beams, and age-appropriate sports equipment.
-
Incorporate Music and Movement:
- Use music and movement activities to engage children in physical activity. Incorporate dance, rhythm, and interactive songs to make movement enjoyable.
-
Outdoor Play:
- If possible, provide outdoor play opportunities. Outdoor play allows for a broader range of physical activities, including running, jumping, and playing with nature.
-
Structured Physical Activities:
- Plan structured physical activities, such as organized games, yoga sessions, or simple exercises. Ensure that these activities are age-appropriate and align with children’s developmental stages.
-
Age-Appropriate Sports Equipment:
- Introduce age-appropriate sports equipment, such as soft balls, beanbags, and foam sports gear. This allows children to practice basic sports skills in a safe and enjoyable way.
-
Incorporate Playful Learning:
- Integrate physical activity into learning experiences. For example, create a movement-based scavenger hunt where children search for items related to a specific theme.
-
Flexible Seating:
- Incorporate flexible seating arrangements that allow for movement. Include options like stability balls, floor cushions, or standing desks to accommodate different preferences.
-
Active Transitions:
- Turn transitions between activities into active moments. Use simple movement exercises or stretches to keep children engaged and energized during transitions.
-
Provide Open-ended Materials:
- Offer open-ended materials that encourage creativity and physical engagement. Items like scarves, ribbons, and streamers can be used for imaginative movement

MemberDecember 26, 2023 at 8:36 pmI believe once you establish a routine, trust, and consistency, it’ll be easier to plan and build activities surrounding the children. I would open up by planning easier social activities to see which child would engage or not. And the children that don’t participate, I will seek other alternatives to make sure they get their physical or social development. Planning a scheduled activity that involves subtle sports, music, art, and team building. Above all, making each activity fun and exciting.

I would have a lot of fun physical activities planned, like cops and robbers, red light green light, and catch the flag depending on the age group I am working with. I would always emphasize that physical activity is a fun thing, not a punishment.
