Do you have any tips for creating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom?

Be sure to take some advice from other teachers and good websites or pages that send you in the right direction. Have lots of colors and things to draw the eye in and keep their attention, things for them to help you with daily. Having activates or rewards for them to look forward too and to work hard for.

Kids really like songs, so it’s way to make some interactive with jumps and dancing, do morning stretching/activities.

I think one of the best ways to make an activity fun is if we create some kind of choreography or movements when doing something. For example, when listening to songs we can have some choreography that goes with it. We can also stretch while we give directions before going outdoors, or we can make games that makes everyone feel free to move around.

By incorporating movement into lessons, such as hopping on letters or using hand motions for math. I would design interactive spaces for storytelling, music, and physical activities, and provide short brain breaks to refocus kids. Outdoor learning, age-appropriate equipment, music, and collaboration games enhance physical and social skills.

There were times in my chocolate center where we could not get outside and the children had a lot of energy I made obstacle courses on how the children can get around the room to help get out some of their physical exhaustion which turned into a very creative way when the weather does not permit us to go outside

Create rules that aren’t restricting the children but are making them safer, set up different activities that encourage body movement and also taking part in the activities with the children

To create a developmentally appropriate and active classroom, start the day with a morning dance routine to energize the children. Set up obstacle courses using soft mats, tunnels, and cones for structured physical play. Include activities like hopscotch to practice counting while moving. During outdoor play, organize simple games like tag or ball toss. Inside, use yoga or stretching exercises during quiet time to help them relax. Incorporate free movement time where children can choose their favorite physical activities, and celebrate their participation to keep them motivated.

Design a safe and stimulating environment, clear and open areas, safe flooring, different activity zones for the kids, and incorporate age appropriate equipment like for example i will be working at my Moms, future daycare and she has incorporated two play sets and a big caterpillar tube for the kids to run through something like i had as a kid at a home daycare and LOVED. a little sandpit toy as well, anything there’s so much you can order for good prices on amazon or even offer up!! you can even just plan some fun outdoor activities.

I like to make the classroom a fun and active place by setting up different play areas where kids can move around and use their creativity. I make sure to include activities like dance parties and obstacle courses to keep everyone moving. I also arrange the classroom so there’s space for running and jumping safely. Balancing active times with quieter moments helps kids stay happy and focused.

A range of different activities from indoor play to outdoor, incorporating music and dance, arts and crafts, and activities that each student shows enjoyment for.
