Physically Active Classroom
-
My classroom has a large motor area with soft balls, an exercise bar, stepping stones, scarves, gymnastics mats, and a small trampoline to encourage active play, and give a safe outlet for sensory seeking behaviors like climbing on furniture and running.

From the time kid comes into the childcare to the time parents come to pick them up we create opportunities for self work. Removing shoes wearing daycare footwear, removing jackets and keeping them in specified place these are opportunities for them to be independent and exercise their freedom. during circle time we sing lots of songs some focus on body parts like head-shoulders-knees-toes and wheels on the bus song they have lots of actions which kids love to imitate. During outdoor time lots of running and imitating action games help in team building, following actions. little tweaks in games make them interesting.

-
Creating a fun exciting environment for the children where they know they will have a good time. It gives them a positive outlook on learning when they enjoy it. Mixing up activities, maybe adding music in to learn a new math technique. Helping the kids be more at ease and encourage memorization. Offering a variety of different resources for the children and multiple age ranges. Encourage the kids to step out of their bubble when it seems appropriate, but also respect their boundaries and maintain that trust. When going outside for playtime, let the kids roam and have independent play, but maybe utilize a few minutes towards the end to get some physical stretches in or running in place for a jog. Take advantage of the sunny days too! Provide a learning opportunity in everything. From serving food to play time, spriknle a little knowledge.
-
Incorporate short movement breaks throughout lessons, time to sing and dance, walking through different centers and of course outside time like running, climbing, crawling and jumping are always fun.

My favorite way to engage children is by dancing, we can release so many feel good feelings when we dance and it helps kids get their daily dose of movement and play all at once.

MemberOctober 27, 2024 at 10:44 pmCreating a developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically active classroom involves several engaging strategies that promote children’s physical, social, and cognitive development. First, designing flexible learning spaces with distinct activity zones—like quiet reading areas, active play spaces, and creative corners—encourages movement and exploration. Integrating movement into lessons through activities like “stand and share” discussions or educational scavenger hunts makes learning dynamic and interactive. Incorporating music for dance and movement breaks can energize the classroom, while taking learning outdoors allows for physical activity in a natural setting. Establishing daily routines that include stretching, dance, or yoga helps children release energy and refocus. Using interactive equipment such as balance beams and hula hoops promotes coordination and motor skills. Additionally, game-based learning can involve physical activity, turning lessons into fun competitions. Encouraging collaboration through group projects that require movement fosters teamwork and social skills. Regularly scheduling free playtime allows children to choose activities that interest them, enhancing their engagement. Finally, modeling active behavior by participating in activities demonstrates enthusiasm for movement, showing children that being active is enjoyable. By implementing these strategies, educators can create a vibrant classroom environment that seamlessly integrates fun and physical activity into the learning experience.

I really like to have dance parties in my classroom. Sometimes we use scarves and other things to make our movements bigger but its fun for both my students and I. During fire season when we couldn’t go outside I used some sleeping matts and cushions to make an obstacle course for my students. It was also an opportunity for them to try a summersault. They loved it!
