Screen time in childcare
-
Gabrielle Stevens
MemberJune 9, 2023 at 5:16 pmI think it’s important to limit screen time with children. While some screen time may be helpful, children also need to get hands on interactive time with their environment.

My opinion on screen time is that it’s okay if there learning something. also, everything is good in moderation. I know screens are literally the future and they’re just going to keep evolving over time but I still do think that we should have some form of extended time to not be on screens.

MemberJune 12, 2023 at 12:54 pmI believe that screen time for children in childcare should be limited and carefully monitored. While I understand that there may be occasional movie days, it is important to prioritize other activities that promote active engagement, social interaction, and hands-on learning. Screen time should be used sparingly and purposefully, focusing on educational and age-appropriate content. I also believe that children should have the opportunity to engage in free play, outdoor activities, and creative experiences while at daycare. It is crucial to strike a balance between technology use and providing a well-rounded experience that fosters their social skills, imagination, and overall development.

Kids out side of a child care could get a lot of screen time and we want decrease that. I don’t necessarily mean 0 screen time we could have it once a week it could help the kids calm down after a day full of activities

What are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare?
I think screen time in general is something that parents should manage and have control of. They should make sure what their child is watching is age appropriate and also limit their screen time to an appropriate amount of time. I think screen time for children in childcare should also be limited to maybe rare movie days. I think the learning should mainly be based on lessons or fun activities when they can collaborate with others.

En los niños menores de 5 años es mejor no usar pantallas como celulares computadores tablet etc. </font></font>

MemberJune 23, 2023 at 5:29 pmWe definitely should not give children screens, there are studies that show that cartoons and games overstimulate the brain of babies, which makes them “addicted” and affects brain development.

I feel like there are enough activities that can be included in the classroom curriculum where an early learning provider does not need to rely on any screen time activities during the day. There may be some parents against screen time, so those types of activities can be left up to parents while the children are at home.

Screen time should be limited and if there is screen time there needs to be adult engagement taking the screen time to a new level. For example you could have a video story and then ask questions about the story. For younger children maybe you could point out emotions, or encourage the children to engage with it by finding things in the video. Screen time should not be used to distract children or keep them occupied. We also don’t know how much screen time children are receiving at home, so it’s best to not add to the total.

For children under 2, I agree with no screen time in the childcare setting. For 2 and older, I think watching something short that is educational or musical for a break break/movement activity is okay in the childcare setting as long as it is guided with a teacher or caregiver.

Limitations on screen time is important in making sure a kid develops their own skills through pretend or active play. Leaving a kid with a tablet and a playlist full of online videos is no way to engage a child and teach them appropriately.

MemberJuly 12, 2023 at 12:16 amI don’t think there should be screen time at a childcare center unless it is for educational reasons and under an allotted time per curriculum. I also think it depends on the age group, infants-preschool age most likely should not have any screen time.
