Screen time in childcare

MemberJanuary 11, 2024 at 6:27 amWhat are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare? honestly, If it were my choice I would not use screen time at all, the way it affects them in vision and making them have temperaments and children wanting to see tv all day Is dumb and stupid. when I’m working in the childcare facility I only allow 15 minutes of screen time right before lunch for they can relax and calm down after playing outside or inside etc,. but now a days parents be using screen time at home mostly all day which creates a schedule for a child thinking it’s okay to watch tv all day when it’s absolutely not okay such as the fact that they get delayed in learning and they end up creating fits and temperaments and tantrums.

MemberJanuary 12, 2024 at 4:50 pmEarly learning providers can create a “serve and return” environment in their classrooms by engaging in responsive interactions with children. This involves noticing a child’s verbal or non-verbal cues and responding appropriately, which can include mirroring their expressions, conversing with them, and extending their ideas. Such interactions are crucial for cognitive and social-emotional development. Teachers can incorporate these practices in everyday activities, ensuring they are attentive and responsive to each child’s communication, thus fostering a rich learning environment.

MemberJanuary 18, 2024 at 1:12 amThe age group, activity, and time are crucial here to screens being a support or a problem. After school, limited screen time after some physical activity and a snack can be great as homework. Espcially reading and math games to reinforce ideas learned in the classroom in fun and engaging ways. Helping support our older elementary children navigate technology is going to help them make better choices than simpy saying no, never.

MemberJanuary 18, 2024 at 5:57 amI think screen time is more used in childcare, at the facility I work at, as a way for the teachers to get something set up, such as snack or an activity. It is never more than ten minutes and the children are three. Other than that, I don’t like the idea of screen time in child care because I think the cons outweigh the pros.

MemberJanuary 20, 2024 at 1:58 amI personally do not believe that childcare is the time for screen time. I feel like when they are surrounded by peers of same age they should use that time to interact, learn, build relationships, and etc. I might be the odd one out but for me I’d rather save screentime for at home.

MemberJanuary 20, 2024 at 4:05 amI think that screen time is best left to at home. While at childcare it’s best to allow the children to learn and develop their skills in more interactive environments than passive watching.

Adia, I agree. Children benefit more from interactive learning experiences in childcare.

MemberJanuary 23, 2024 at 9:40 pmI feel like it doesn’t make a difference, My oldest had no screen time until 5 years old and i see no real difference in him and my youngest who had screen time since birth. They are both academically successful and on track with standards. I do feel like it is hard for sleeping when they had screen time, like its hard on the eyes

MemberJanuary 30, 2024 at 7:15 amI think that screen time should complement traditional childcare practices rather than serve as a substitute for them.Providers should also be cautious of the information they show children, ensuring that it is age appropriate and informative.

MemberFebruary 3, 2024 at 1:44 amI think there are times when screens are probably necessary for school-age children. However, I also think it is absolutely possible and a good idea to limit reliance on and use of screens in childcare.

What are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare?
– During childcare hours I believe that kids should have no screen time, at home parents can allow it that is up to them but in a classroom, they can listen to music on a tablet or listen to stories but not see the screen.

MemberFebruary 5, 2024 at 2:41 amI think screen time should be limited. As children, there are many ways to learn through playing, interacting with others, and using their creativity.
