Great points, Leidy! Balancing screen time with active engagement and educational content is crucial for healthy development.

Would definitely not want television is the classroom. Kid’s are going to veg out. The studies show that screen time is addictive.
-
Jennifer, you raise valid concerns about screen time. Limiting television can encourage more active, engaging learning experiences for children.

Screentime is not appropriate for younger kids in a daycare setting maybe listen to some music or sing songs together and for school-agers maybe on occasion age appropriate movie like Disney they all can watch together
-
Great points, Sarah! Balancing screen time with interactive activities fosters creativity and social skills in young children.

MemberMay 5, 2025 at 5:00 amHere’s a simple and balanced response you can use:I think screen time in childcare should be very limited and used with purpose. Young children learn best through hands-on play, movement, and real-life interactions. If screens are used, they should be age-appropriate, short in duration, and support learning, not replace it. It’s also important to make sure screen time doesn’t take away from social play or outdoor time. I also think sticking to studies showing that toddlers should not have screen time to better their development, is a wise rule.
-
Great insights, Natalia! I appreciate your emphasis on purposeful screen time and prioritizing hands-on experiences for young learners.

MemberMay 6, 2025 at 5:27 amI believe that screen should be heavily restricted if not entirely stopped for children at young ages due to the possible and emerging research on their negative and addictive effects.
-
Though screen time can keep the child occupied for long periods. It also takes away from connecting relationships with their caregiver. There is a negative effect on the brain and children learn to be dependent on electronics. This takes away many developmental skills needed for daily living.
-
Great insights, Belles! Balancing screen time and relationship-building is crucial for healthy child development.

MemberMay 11, 2025 at 1:51 amScreen time should be limited and used more for education purposes rather than entertainment. Although an easy way to get a childs attention, there are better alternatives to a Childs development such as music and rhymes.
-
Great insights, Kaedan! Balancing screen time with engaging alternatives like music can significantly enhance children’s development.

Screen time for children in childcare should be approached with caution and balance. While technology can be an engaging tool for learning, it’s essential that screen time is limited and used purposefully to complement, rather than replace, interactive and hands-on activities. Young children, especially those in early learning environments, thrive on personal interactions and physical play, which foster social, emotional, and cognitive development. Screen time should be intentional, educational, and brief, ensuring that children have ample opportunities for real-world experiences, such as outdoor play, creative activities, and building relationships with peers and caregivers. By setting clear boundaries and focusing on age-appropriate content, providers can use screens as a positive addition to the learning environment without allowing them to dominate the child’s experience.

Great insights, Rozlynn! Balancing screen time with interactive activities is crucial for holistic development in young children.

Great points, Malin! Emphasizing active play and social interaction is crucial for children’s development in daycare settings.

I think screen time definitely has a negative affect of development. From what I have heard and seen, parents tend to direct their children to electronic devices in order to keep them busy. Unfortunately, this means the child is not exploring their surroundings or building their sense of the world around them. These two components are important in development.
-
Great insights, Claire! Balancing screen time with active exploration is crucial for healthy child development.

MemberMay 14, 2025 at 12:18 amI don’t think screentime should be included in childcare because our goal is to support and encourage development, not stunt it. That shouldn’t limit music or other audible entertainment.

Great point, Andrea! Engaging, hands-on activities truly enhance children’s learning and development more than excessive screen time.

Screen time in child care is a pet peeve of mine. I live in Idaho where there are no restrictions on it. Daycare workers at places I’ve worked might have babies in front of the TV for an hour and a half. It’s really so bad for kids. I was happy to see that if I drive into Washington to work in a daycare there, I should not be seeing babies in front of screens.
-
Nicole, your concerns about excessive screen time in childcare are valid. Promoting healthier alternatives is crucial for child development!
