Screen time in childcare

I believe in childcare, screen time should be limited and purposeful. Young children learn best through play and interaction, so screens should never replace hands on experience. When used, it should be short, and guided by an adult to support, not replace real word learning.

Great insights, Simayah! Balancing screen time with hands-on experiences is crucial for optimal learning in early childhood.

Having a child be dependent on screen time is a huge no. However, if there are some songs and rhymes that the child can learn from every now and then, then a screen is acceptable. Screens are very addicting and should only be used very limitedly.

I totally agree, young children need to interact and learn with really people, also you just cant get the emotional support and feedback from a tablet or a computer.

Screen time, in limits, does have some benefit if used wisely in moderation. Movement breaks are an example of a short, fun group activity. I do not believe that a child sitting down staring at a screen is appropriate in general, and not at all for a child care center.

I believe screen time should be age appropriate and time limited. Childcare centers should be completely screen free but I also understand some might use them for a short learning lesson

I think for early childhood, 1-8 years, we should avoid any screen time at childcare.

Screentime must be interactive in order for it to be beneficial, otherwise I believe it is wasting time and is just an easy distraction.

I think screen time in child care should be limited. At a care facility, it’s important we give children opportunities to learn, experience, and have fun without screens.

I think its important to keep screen time to a minimum because studies show it can cause social emotional issues. From my personal experience kids who are on screens a lot are mor irritable and less likely to listen to requests.

For children who are in childcare I think it is better to avoid screen time as much as possible, especially since it has been shown to have negative effects on a child’s development. Maybe with older children there might be some contexts in which it might be appropriate to have some screen time occasionally, but I think those would have to be exceptions rather than the rule of thumb.

Screen time in childcare should be limited and used thoughtfully, if at all. Young children learn best through hands-on play, movement, and face-to-face interactions, so screens should never replace those experiences. If screens are used, they should be short, purposeful, and interactive—such as sharing a story, exploring a concept, or connecting with families—always with an adult guiding and engaging alongside the child. The focus should remain on real-world exploration, relationships, and play.

I think screentime in childcare for young members is unnecessary, and shouldn’t be within the space.

I think it should be limited due to how much screen time children get at home these days

Screen time in childcare settings is a complex issue, it must be very limited or no screen time for children under 2 years. Carefully chosen and has high-quality content, co-viewing and interaction with screens rather than passive watching. Too much or unstructured screen use can interfere with language development, attention span, and limit opportunities like play, social interaction and any hands-on exploration that may lead to behavioral issues.
