Screen time in childcare

I don’t think young children need screen time, especially in the classroom. The best way for them to learn is through hands-on experiences, particularly at an early age. Interacting with real people and engaging with the physical environment are essential for their growth. The classroom provides the ideal setting for children to explore, discover new things, and develop a wide range of abilities. Real-life experiences help shape both their mental and physical habits. After all, even adults find electronic devices distracting, so limiting their use for young children is especially important.

I believe that screen time may be beneficial for children older than 5 that have shown progress in developing their emotional, social, intellectual and physical developmental domains, without the presence of screens while in a learning environment. I believe that around this age is when children become a bit more aware to the outside world, the importance of technology, and its uses for education purposes. I do not believe that any amount of screen time for children under the age of 5 is beneficial in any way. This is because I believe that interaction through physical means is far more beneficial for children this age, seeing something directly in front of them is easier to comprehend than a screen that they cant touch, feel, or interact with in order to properly stimulate the brain.

I don’t think there should be screen time in early learning, because the recommendation is so limited that it should be reserved for time at home.

What are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare? My thoughts on screen time for children in childcare all depends on how often the child is using screentime. I believe that children should be able to use at least 1-2 hours of screentime outside of childcare such as at home or in a setting where they are comfortably enjoying a movie, show, or something educational. It gives children a sense to wind down, although statics say that excessive screen time can hamper children’s communication and language skills. As long as children are utilizing their screen time to a minimum of 1-2 hours a day, it is perfectly fine… as it is something that most kids look forward to so they all can get a break from their learning at childcare/early learning programs.

What are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare?I think screen time for kids in childcare should be very limited. Kids learn best by playing, exploring, and interacting with teachers and friends, not by watching screens. Screens can be okay sometimes for short, educational activities, but most of the day should be spent on hands-on learning, talking, and moving around. This helps kids grow socially, emotionally, and physically.

I believe parents should limit screen time for their children. I believe that parents should spend more time doing stimulating activities with their children to challenge critical thinking and improve their child’s development.

Because screen time has negative impacts on things like auditory and visual senses and attention span, it is better to not introduce it until a child has become adept at learning without it, built critical and complex thinking skills and learned how to manage their emotions.

Much as what the module says, screen time should be non-existent in childcare. There is so much research on the negative impacts of screen time in early development. In a childcare facility, teachers should not be allowed to provide screen time or be on their devices in the presence of children. Screen time actively delays the brain and does not stimulate it.

I think that for younger kids a bigger focus on art, music, and creativity is important as opposed to screen time. I think that once kids get older and are able to recognize screens and technology as a tool for creating it can be beneficial.

I think screen time for children in childcare should be very limited. Young children learn best by playing, exploring, and talking with others, not by watching screens. Too much screen time can slow their language and social development and make it harder for them to focus.Providers should focus on hands-on activities, reading, and group play instead of using videos or games.

I think that there shouldn’t be screen time at all for kids under 3 years old. For kids above 3 I think that it could be appropriate if okay with the parents that there could be screen time 1 or 2 times a week for just around 10 minutes to show learning video or something that has an enhancement to education.

I think children in childcare should do activities and play, they should not have screentime, this is a great time for them to develop skills with other kids. Older kids can have screen time at home, at the paremts discretion.

Children now have screen time on cell phones as well as sitting in front of a TV screen. Classrooms can use screen time to enhance their programs with educational content and fun activities that create self-expression. The time should be limited.

I think that although screen time is “fun” and a way to distract kids when you need a break, it is not helpful for their brain development. Even as an adult, I struggle to put down my phone and make real connections with people. I think it can help to build stronger relationships with your kids or students if no screen time is involved.
