Written polices are helpful for current staff to be able to refresh on standards and what is expected of them. They are necessary in training new staff to learn expectations for they should function. Written policies are also helpful to engage parents and enroll them in their child’s development–showing places of growth where their child exhibits dangerous/challenging behavior, outline steps staff have used to engage their child, and to shape future interaction and growth.

I think in instances where there is harm or behavior that is potentially dangerous for a child or their peers a guidance policy might be beneficial.

When there is an incident, it is very helpful to have the policies accessible to see how to respond. Sometimes it’s easy to forget what you are supposed to do in a situation, or you want to verify you are reacting appropriately.
