If you were giving a prospective parent a tour through your program, what safety procedures would you highlight?

I would begin by welcoming the family to the classroom, then give them a tour of the classroom. Depending on the classrooms location I would then point out the exit/entrance, bathroom, and the myriad of safety precautions we have put into place to keep their child safe. For example keeping items out of reach of children, behind closed doors, and locked away such as medication.

As they enter the building, they’ll notice the safety gates in the doorways. I would bring them into the classroom and show them how everything is stored and labeled. I will show them where we keep our emergency contact/ medication/ first aid kit. When I take them to the outdoor play area, I will point out the gates and doors. We also have a wall where we hang helmets labeled with each child’s name. I will also explain to them our incident report procedure.

I would happily welcome them and then take a tour inside the school but not inside the classroom. Schedule a tour after school hours if they want to look inside the classroom

I would show them the procedures for fires and earthquakes, show how before anything; the children and teachers wash their hands, show the first aid kit.

as the parents enter I would greet them and welcome them to the school. Along the tour I would share many of the fun and exciting things their child will get to do and learn and how they will grow. While doing that ill include how we maintain the safety of the children by the way in which our environment is set up, how we clean and sanitize everything, our hand washing procedures and what we do when children or staff are sick. I think its important for them to know that when we think about their child learning and developing we think of how the environment will impact that and also how to keep it as safe as we can in ways that allow the child to develop creative self choices.

I would highlight our staff to child ratio and how it allows us to keep eyes on kids to ensure they are staying safe; our age-appropriate toys that don’t have pieces that younger kids could swallow; our nap mat procedures to keep kids’ mats clean; our hand washing procedures; and our snack table cleaning procedures.

I’ll give them a tour of the classroom first to show them the safety of the indoor space their child will be in and show them safety exits. I’ll also show them where we keep our first aid that should be easily accessible.

I would invite them in and show them around the classroom. We would look at the activities provided and I could point out safety protocols involving the use of water, food etc. I would also show them the exit and the outdoor areas. And answer any and all questions that they have.

I would explain how the layout of the classroom is specifically designed with child safety in mind. I would explain our cleaning procedures of equipment as well as hand washing procedures etc. I would show the parents where first aid kits are located and what we do in an emergency. I would also show them the first aid/cpr certifications. I would show them the kid safe outdoor equipment and ask the parents if they have any questions for me.
