I would show them the safety gates that keep the children out of the potential risk zone and tell them where safety exits are and assure them that anything that could potentially injure their child is either out of reach or locked away.

On our tour I would include how we maintain the safety of the children by the way in which our environment is set up, how we clean and sanitize everything, our hand washing procedures and what we do when children or staff are sick, and the many safety precautions we have put into place to keep their child safe. For example keeping items out of reach of children, behind closed doors, and locked away such as medication.

I would start by welcoming them to the center and to our classroom, and after doing so I would point out our entrances/exits, bathrooms, kitchen, and play areas indoors and outdoors so the parents are familiar with the layout of the entire center so they will never be confused about where to find their child.

From the very beginning, I would make sure that the family is welcomed by a welcoming presence. Highlighting pleasant happy faces, then showing classrooms ,art supplies, various activities, the playground, bathrooms, first aid kits, sanitation, food serving, and the very common safety hazards present in daycares, and how we address them. Arguably the most important though is a rundown of the security in the building and how families can safely access the facility.

I would point out that all of our teacher cleaning items, extra markers and anything sharp or small is put in the kitchen. There are two safety gates to get into the kitchen from the classroom. All the plugs are child safe.

I would highlight our three-step sanitization process that we use to clean tables/chairs, toys, and other objects/materials the children come in contact with. I would also tell them about the health and safety training all staff go through every year, that most staff are CPR and first aid certified, and that we have first aid kits in every room.
