MemberDecember 23, 2022 at 11:10 pmIf I had to give a tour to a parent I would highlight, coping with a crying baby, skills for everyday life, skills to help you, how to have a healthy environment, and safety on the playground
-
I would not focus just on the safety procedures, I would include all of the fun, welcoming, and warm things about the program but I would also include the procedures as they came up. For example, if we walked outside I would mention that my program has a gated fence around the playground and that our doors are locked 100% of the time. I would also show them any procedures that we have on paper as well.
-
I would point them out as we went along. We have two open floor planned rooms at our facility, each having their own emergency exit. I would most certainly point those out and tell them how we would use them for fires and in the case of intruders. In order not to make the parents paranoid by talking too much about safety procedures, I would probably ask them at the end if they wanted (extra) information about safety procedures, maybe pertaining to power outages, lockdowns, and earthquakes.
-
I’d want to start by extending a warm greeting to the parents before demonstrating how well we keep kids safe by making sure their surroundings are safe and free of dangers, as well as how active we are in watching over and nurturing the kids.
-
I would first take the parents on a tour of the facilities and show them common safety procedures for kids like the furniture, then how doors and windows are locked and how we’d know if they were open. I’d show them the toilet area and how that space would normally be monitored by teachers.

-
I would welcome them and highlight how open the space is and how a teacher can see the children from anywhere in the room. I would also highlight safety locks and shelving.
-
If I were giving a prospective parent a tour of my program, the safety procedures I would highlight are fire prevention, and disaster plan.
-
After welcoming the family I would highlight our safety features, our front door has code access only, you must be buzzed into our main office. All children are checked in and out by fingerprint system. Our building is sanitized multiple times per day, our classrooms are swept and mopped at least 3 times a day, bathrooms are fully bleached multiple times a day. Children have access to hand washing sinks and soap at all times.

Discuss program’s goal for safe interaction between children and outline approach for behavioral correction.

I would welcome the parent and show them round the classroom and all our toys art and activities. I would then show them all the exits, windows, climate control, where we store cleaning supplies as well as the locks on the cabins and the baby gates. I would also ensure them routine checks are being done on things like fire alarms and fire extinguishers. as well as the labels on everything and ask them if they have any more safety questions or overall concerns.
-
I would talk about our cozy corner where a kid can go to be alone calm feel safe talk about our incident reports and how we handle incidents

I would explain our emergency protocols, allergy information and protocol, our food safety certifications, our hand washing procedures, first aid kits and first aid and CPR training.

Thank you, these are good details. It’s a good idea to have this information in writing also so that you can document that the conversation took place.

When families enter the building I will point out the precaussions that we have taken to ensure that our children are safe. This includes having furniture that limits dangerous activity, our staff to child ratio, as well as where we keep the emergency contact information and any medicine or first aid equipment. I will also show them our outside area including the gates, and fall zones.
