During the tour, I would highlight our secure entrances and pick-up protocols to ensure only authorized adults can access the facility. I’d explain how all staff are trained in CPR, First Aid, and emergency procedures. Our classrooms and play areas are regularly inspected for safety, and we follow strict hygiene practices to prevent illness. We also have clear protocols for managing allergies and medications, and all staff undergo background checks to ensure a safe environment for every child.

I would greet them and welcome them and then show them our classroom and point out the safety of entering our building and precautions we take to ID adults picking up children. I would share with them the playground and point out the safe fun things we do on the playground. We would go over classroom safety and what to do if we suspect something or someone that feels unsafe.

If I was giving a prospective parent a tour of the child care center the safety procedures I would highlight are the specific temperature that the child care is always kept at (to make sure we stay in regulation of the WACs or WA laws, and for the safety of the child). That no electrical outlets are in physical reach of the child, that we have safe water and water play that we make sure we use safely, that we have shielded light bulbs, and specific locks for cabinets that keep kids safe as well. There are also many more things I would list including windows, fences, playground surfaces, and overall construction and safety of the building.

I would highlight how we practice everday skills, washing hands after every activity ass someone else mentioned, learning how to problem solve, picking up after themselves and transitioning into the next activity for the day, these are all life skills that will hopefully stick with them well, for life and i think its important the families and parents know yes we are teaching them cirriculum, and giving them time to play, but we also ensure throughout the day we take every opportunity possible to put those life skills to practice.

I’d communicate that safety is a top priority and that the program is proactive in preventing accidents and promoting a healthy environment for every child.Secure Exits and Entrances — Doors and gates are always locked and monitored to prevent unauthorized access and ensure children cannot leave without supervision. Safe Play Areas — Playgrounds have soft surfaces to cushion falls, fences to keep children safely contained, and equipment regularly checked for safety. Clean and Sanitized Environment — Toys, surfaces, and common areas are cleaned and sanitized frequently using approved bleach-water solutions, with a visible cleaning schedule to ensure consistency. Childproofed Spaces — Electrical outlets are covered, sharp objects and hazardous materials are out of reach, and shelving and furniture are secured to walls to prevent tipping. Emergency Preparedness — Working telephones are available, emergency exits are clearly marked and accessible, and regular fire and earthquake drills are practiced. Healthy Air and Water — Proper ventilation is maintained, water used for drinking and play meets safety standards, and any potential exposure to chemicals or toxins is prevented. Safe Animal Interaction — If animals or pets are present, they are healthy, supervised, and children are taught proper hygiene after interacting with them. Our classroom often has a terrarium with crickets, ladybugs, etc. While handling would be a big concern, the children do touch the food for the insets.

I would welcome the family to the classroom and then give them a tour of the space. I would then point out the exit/entrance, bathroom, safety precautions, first aid storage room, nature areas, and other relevant features. It is essential to let them know that we are not only creating a safe environment but also one where the children are having fun and thriving.

If you were giving a prospective parent a tour through your program, what safety procedures would you highlight?I would agree with some of the colleagues saying they would show a warm, welcoming gesture.Next, I would take them to the area where the children’s work is inside the classroom, and show them the baby room with the assurance that we abide by safety protocols. I will show them where the bathroom is, and the area where they wash their hand and sit for lunch. I will show them the Philosophy, Mission, and Vision we have in the Childcare Center. Show them where they come in and log on for their children’s drop-off and pick-up. I will show them the play area outside and show them what toys we have, and assure them that we have passes for toys and furniture screening. I would also mention to them that we follow sanitation control, fences are high enough where kids are safe outside from falling.I will give them a heads-up that no small toys are allowed upon dropping them off. Last but not least, food and allergy information.
