A few other things we also show are the first aid kit, staff’s food handlers, disinfectants, daily schedule board and the children’s cubbies.

I would explain how we always keep doors secure, check who comes in and out, and make sure children are supervised at all times. I would also show how we keep the environment clean, how we store hazardous items out of children’s reach, and how we follow proper handwashing and health procedures.I would mention that all staff are trained in emergency plans, like fire drills, lockdowns, and first aid. I would also explain how we handle medications, allergies, and illness policies to keep everyone safe.Overall, I would reassure the parent that safety is our priority and that we follow state guidelines to protect every child in our care.

I would first want to show them the layout of each room and how we have fun and safe areas for the children, but how in each room we also have storage that is locked and secured. I would then want to show them where we keep things like first aid kids, and assure them that there will always be eyes on their child!

MemberDecember 3, 2025 at 8:20 amIf I were giving a prospective parent a tour of my program, I would highlight the safety procedures I use every day. I would explain that all toys, surfaces, and bathrooms are cleaned and sanitized on a regular schedule using approved solutions. Indoors, electrical outlets are covered, shelving is secured, chemicals and hazards are locked away, and glass and lighting are safe for children. I would show that emergency information is posted, a working phone and first aid supplies are available, and exits are always clear. I would also highlight that drinking water is safe, handwashing routines are followed, and food areas are kept clean. Outdoors, I would point out the fenced play area with soft surfacing and safe equipment. Finally, I would emphasize that children are always supervised within sight and sound to ensure their safety at all times.

MemberDecember 6, 2025 at 9:51 pmIf I was giving a prospective parent a tour through my program, I would first approach them with a warm and welcoming smile and show and talk to them about where all exits/ entrances to the facility, adult restrooms and children restrooms are located as well as the certain locations (i,e. gym, playground) where their child may be during play time. I will also bring up our injury report procedures so they are informed of what we do in the case their child is injured in our care. I will also make sure to put all items that could be dangerous to children away from where they can play with them (i,e. medications and chemicals used for cleaning that should only be accessible to care staff) in areas where they cannot reach them.
-
Catherine, your response beautifully highlights the importance of communication and transparency with parents. Emphasizing safety measures and injury procedures reassures parents and fosters trust in your program. Well done!
