    1. Which WACs address diversity and collaboration with families?
    2. What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration?

    1. 110-300-0160: Promoting acceptance of diversity

    2. The big messages that WAC gives regarding diversity and collaboration is that every family will have a different set of expectations and come from all different backgrounds that we must celebrate and respect. It is our job as educators to build a relationship with the families and to keep an open communication and mind between each other. We have to make sure that our families feel welcomed and accepted no matter what. We have to include diversity in our learning by making sure all is represented in the classroom. There has to be a good balance of different cultures and we have to make sure we protect their rights to be who they are by stopping all biases and redirecting biases. I think when a child is represented they feel more comfortable in the classroom and even comfortable with new things they see from each other.

WAC 110-300-0160 states that early childcare providers must
provide learning opportunities that are culturally/ racially diverse in
their curriculums, activities, and materials. That includes things
around the classroom that don’t reinforce stereotypes, diverse music,
and intervening when biased behavior is displayed.

Big messages that WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration are that as a learning provider, we must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. The main WAC that focuses on diversity is WAC 110-300-0160 <b style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>Promoting acceptance of diversity. I think it is intertwined in many more though.

<b style=”color: var(–bb-body-text-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>I think the WAC’s are sending a clear message that all children and families should be celebrated and respected individually. There will be no tolerance for exclusion or inappropriate behaviors. It’s our job to make sure all children are included and have a right to a inclusive learning environment<b style=”color: var(–bb-body-text-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>.

An early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff.

the big picture is to provide a welcoming diverse environment without any insensitive or stereotypical material in the classroom

I would like the child’s parents to know about the child’s hobbies, and create learning aspects for the child that he likes, and let him be interested in integrating into this community.

Each family is unique, and I will strive to ensure that the children who come to me do not feel awkward or overwhelmed. This applies not only to language barriers but also to respecting the diverse socioeconomic backgrounds of families. Additionally, for children with special needs, I will provide extra assistance and support.

WACs that address diversity and collaboration with families are WAC 110-300-0160 and WAC 110-300-0085.

Big messages that these WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration include the responsibility early learning providers have when it comes to being inclusive. Providers can be inclusive to those of different race, cultures, and backgrounds by including culturally and racially diverse material and activities into their curriculum. Another big message is making sure early learning providers are consistent in communication with families and building relationships, as well as obtaining information about the children.

I would do circles with my students and ask them questions about there home and culture so other students can have different perspectives and learn and connect with there classmates. I also think this will create a cluture in my classroom so all student know that they are welcomed.

they begin to develop their self-concept (at least in part) from how others see them. To form positive self-concepts, children must honor and respect their own families and cultures and have others honor and respect these key facets of their identities too

WACs 110-300-0085 and 100-300-0160 relate to communication with families about cultural differences and providing children with culturally diverse learning opportunities in the classroom, especially through family collaboration. The WACs really emphasize developing a respectful relationship with each child’s family to best facilitate the growth of their child.
