    1. Washington Administrative Code 110-300-0100: Collaboration with families and communities.

    2. WAC 110-300-0200: Cultural diversity must be respected.

    3. It’s clear that these things are non-negotiable. You’re not choosing to respect and learn more about the families you work with; you’re required to and it should always be an expectation.

WAC 110-300-0160 addresses diversity and WAC 110-300-0085 addresses communication and collaboration with families, stating that ” An early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff”

Cultural responsiveness and diversity are very important. The WACs clearly indicate the requirement of respect, embracing, and collaboration of and with those of any/ all cultures and backgrounds. One way to integrate this is allowing for children to continue cultural practices including things like language, food, and religion– and encourage the fostering of such while in our centers.

The WAC which address diversity and collaboration with families would be wac 110-300-1000 and 110-300-0200

The main messages in the WACs would be that its important for children to learn about diversity and how to be inclusive. They teach about the importance of communicating with families and ensuring their children learn about the cultural things important to them and their families.

I would want the childs family to be open and honest about their culture, and open to any questions that may arise. I would take the time out of the month with certain holidays to show our support and love.
