The Foundational Quality Standards for Early Learning Programs (WACs) emphasize the importance of collaboration and diversity in early childhood education. When it comes to collaboration with families, WAC 110-300-0100 states that programs must involve families in decision-making processes and respect their unique strengths and needs. Additionally, WAC 110-300-0150 highlights the significance of building partnerships with families to support children’s learning and development.

In terms of diversity, the WACs stress the importance of creating inclusive environments that celebrate and respect individual differences. WAC 110-300-0100 specifically mentions the need to provide culturally responsive care that honors the diverse backgrounds of children and families. Furthermore, WAC 110-300-0150 emphasizes the promotion of equity and social justice by addressing systemic barriers and biases that may impact children and families.

Overall, the WACs send a clear message that collaboration with families and embracing diversity are essential components of high-quality early learning programs. By working together with families and creating inclusive environments that celebrate diversity, early childhood educators can better support the holistic development of all children.

What messages do the WACs convey regarding diversity and collaboration?

The WACs states a lot about how care takers should be trained to help and accept diversity. Not every child will be the same or the same background as different children are from. So helping families be included and collaborating with other families is really important.

    110-300-0160 Promoting Acceptance of Diversity

I like that our WAC’s make it very clear that diversity is to be celebrated and used as an opportunity for all to learn and be made welcome.

    110-300-0085 Family Partnerships and Communication

It’s so important to be able to work with the family to come up with strategies for specific kiddos. That includes lots of things that may make them different from other children in the care program.

The rules (WACs) about diversity and working with families in early learning say it’s important to include everyone and respect different cultures. They want teachers to talk with families a lot, involve them in decisions, and let them join activities. Teachers should understand and respect how families from different backgrounds live and speak. These rules also say schools should help all kids, including those who learn differently, and make sure teachers and families work together closely to help children grow well and feel supported.
