The WACs message regarding diversity is that it is essential to be inclusive. Childcare facilities are public accommodation for all children, so there is no discrimination towards anyone. They have to be accommodating to all children and their families.

WAC 110-300-0085 conveys that early learning providers must communicate with families to identify individual children’s developmental goals. WAC 110-300-0030 addresses non discrimination by stating that early learning programs are “places of public accommodation and must not discriminate on basis of race, creed, color, national origin, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, class, age, religion, or disability.

State law requires that all child care employees honor all children’s race, religion, culture, gender, physical ability, and family structure and to provide families with information regarding their child’s progress in the center.

f the daycare staff only spoke english and me or my child couldn’t effectively communicate with them, it would feel nonwelcoming and non inclusive.

If the staff did not show respect to me then I would feel unwelcome.

If the teacher pressured my child into meeting milestones when they were behind, it would feel unwelcome.
