Make it fun, use things that interest them, and show yourself having a good time.

What are some creative ways to get children engaged in active, meaningful learning?

I think it is important to build off of what the child is interested in or what they are talking about. For example, asking them open ended questions about whatever they are interested about. In our center we had a miniature therapy horse come in for a bit. Before the horse came we were asking the students what they thought the horse would look like, smell like, hear like, etc. We got a lot of fun answers, a lot of them thought it would be a unicorn and rainbow colored!

Encouraging and creating an exciting environment will make the child interested into whatever it is you are providing. Show that you yourself are having a good time and the child will want to participate as well.

<div>To engage children in creative ways it is important to develop social skills and knowledge, encourage children to think critically, encourage creative expression and appreciation for arts and much more…</div><div>

Addition to that, following a daily routine, use of materials that are appropriate, getting to know each children individuality and add as much cultural events as possible.

Ex : Morning songs saying Hello in different languages, show and tell about their culture, etc… Childcare providers must engage learning about our world, the things we have in common and the differences.

creative ways to get children involved is to include them in the set up by asking them to pass out materials. this is good especially for children who are new or have socializing needs

I love getting the children outside to learn about their environment. Nature walks outside and playing games such as “I Spy” (“I spy with my little eye something…”) help keep children engaged in what they are doing and curious about the outdoors. Young children are so curious by nature and love asking questions so there are always opportunities for care providers to teach and ask the children meaningful and open-ended questions in return.

It would be best to get to know the children’s strength and weaknesses and have activities that meet their needs and that they find interesting while also challenging them so that they get the opportunity to grow individually or as a group.

offer a wide variety of different types of play and activites; dramatic play with real living child size environment. Make sure to include materials; dolls, books, dress, food, arts, etc. that represent a diversity of races and cultures, those especially specific to the students in your class. Children are more likely to engage socially if they can see and feel that they and their family culture are represented.

Giving children a variety of options to explore could give them a sense of independence and help them discover what they might be interested in. If a child shows interest in a certain activity or subject, I could incorporate that into their learning to promote engagement. Encouraging a child to explore their potential interests could get them more interested in what they are learning. Asking open-ended questions could also get them to be more engaged in their activities.

Kids are very curious and often wonder what others are doing. I would encourage kids to join in fun by asking questions about what it is I (or others) am doing, and then ask if they can do it also. I think treasure hunts are fun and can be made easy or more difficult for each age group, and it’s a hide and seek game that many kids enjoy.
