Hands-On Activities <ul data-start=”115″ data-end=”270″> Let children explore with their senses—build with blocks, play with water, plant seeds, or mix colors in art. Learning by doing helps concepts “stick.” <b data-start=”272″ data-end=”302″><strong data-start=”276″ data-end=”302″>2. Play-Based Learning <ul data-start=”303″ data-end=”412″> Use pretend play, storytelling, and games to teach language, math, and social skills in a fun, natural way. <b data-start=”414″ data-end=”444″><strong data-start=”418″ data-end=”444″>3. Outdoor Exploration <ul data-start=”445″ data-end=”557″> Take learning outside for nature walks, scavenger hunts, or chalk games—movement + curiosity = great learning! <b data-start=”559″ data-end=”588″><strong data-start=”563″ data-end=”588″>4. Child-Led Projects <ul data-start=”589″ data-end=”731″> Follow a child’s interests (like dinosaurs or space) and build learning activities around them—books, crafts, songs, and simple experiments. <b data-start=”733″ data-end=”762″><strong data-start=”737″ data-end=”762″>5. Music and Movement <ul data-start=”763″ data-end=”855″> Use songs, dance, and rhythm games to teach counting, vocabulary, or following directions. <b data-start=”857″ data-end=”883″><strong data-start=”861″ data-end=”883″>6. Real-Life Tasks <ul data-start=”884″ data-end=”993″> Involve children in cooking, cleaning, or organizing—these teach responsibility, math, and problem-solving. <b data-start=”995″ data-end=”1030″><strong data-start=”999″ data-end=”1030″>7. Ask Open-Ended Questions <ul data-start=”1031″ data-end=”1149″> Encourage thinking and conversation with questions like “What do you think will happen?” or “Why do you think that?”

Children only have so much attention where they can sit still and listen, so it is important to keep them moving while trying to teach lessons at the same time to keep order in the class.
-
Great insights, Logan! Integrating physical movement truly enhances engagement and helps maintain children’s focus during lessons.

getting the kids engaged in acting out the book after reading, you can also using tools like play-dough or something that they can use their hands to learn with.
-
Great suggestions, Girathina! Acting out stories and hands-on activities like play-dough foster creativity and enhance learning engagement.

MemberAugust 6, 2025 at 8:33 pmYou could use texture boards with varied materials to get infants to explore touch and sound.
-
Great idea, Cambrie! Texture boards are excellent for sensory exploration and can enhance infants’ learning experiences significantly.
-
-
Sensory activities are great! If you are doing an activity with multiple textures (slime, playdoh, textured balls), you can ask questions about what that feels like to them? What does it remind them of? Kids love to explore their environment through touch so if you have fun materials, it is a wonderful way to engage them.
-
Great insight, Kira! Sensory activities truly enhance engagement and foster meaningful connections through exploration and personal reflection.

1) get them involved and able to use their hands in activities, so they get “real world” experience interacting in their environments 2) make it fun using a song/dance or incorporate something visual
-
Great suggestions, Imani! Hands-on activities and incorporating music enhance engagement and make learning enjoyable and memorable.

I like to use open-ended activities that allow for unexpected multiple approaches and creative solutions. Also, using dramatic pretend play across age groups can be a way to get students fully engrossed in the activity and allows for their imagination to make connections and thoughtful observations that are also often unexpected.
-
Great insights, Jason! Open-ended activities and dramatic play truly foster creativity and critical thinking in young learners.
