Good ways of engaging children in meaningful, active learning is by follow the child’s interest, allowing them to steer and guide where you delve into more complicated ideas and concepts, and where you might keep things more surface level. It is important to ask deep and meaningful questions about the nature of the world and how they are engaging with it to encourage critical thinking and a more nuanced understanding of the world.

I find that positive reinforcement really helps children want to participate, for example when we are doing group activities like dance time or Storytime i shout out the kids who are participating. it especially helps when it comes to mealtimes or washing up

Some creative ways to engage children in active, meaningful learning include hands-on activities like cooking, gardening, or science experiments, where they can explore and discover. Dramatic play and role-play help children connect learning to real-life situations. Incorporating music, movement, and art makes lessons more interactive and fun. Outdoors, I would use nature walks, scavenger hunts, or building projects to connect learning with the environment. Most importantly, following children’s interests and choices keeps the learning relevant and meaningful.

One way to get kids engaged in learning is by adding some drama! Letting the kids dress up and role-play as whatever you are learning about is a fun and easy way to encourage more engagement from the kids. Especially for those who learn best by doing.

Getting children engaged in active, meaningful learning is all about tapping into their natural curiosity, providing opportunities for hands-on exploration and making learning feel like play. They can do project-based learning, use loose parts play, incorporate dramatic play, integrate music and movement, create discovery or sensory bins, connect learning to children’s interests, take hands-on manipulatives, ask open-ended questions and promote peer collaboration.

Don’t tell them what to do let them get to answers on their own. This can encourage critical thinking skills

Children engage in active, meaningful learning when they can explore and discover through hands-on experiences. Using play-based activities, outdoor exploration, music and movement, and storytelling helps capture their interest and make learning fun. Allowing children to lead projects based on their own curiosity also keeps them motivated and involved. By connecting lessons to real-life activities, like cooking or gardening, learning becomes more meaningful and memorable.
