Begin with things that the child is interested in and have the think critically about their interests. You can also ask more meaningful questions that prompt answers beyond a simple yes or no.

Scenario – Letting kids play with water. One child is given a cup to fill water. Another child is playing with a rubber duck in a water filled basin while another child is given a small metal car to play. <div>Questions- Do water has a color? Do water takes a space? Why do you think the rubber duck floats? Why do you think the metal car sinks? </div>

Getting children engaged in hands on activities stimulates them to engage in their world and give them a framework that feels more open ended, in this set up we’re less likely to get yes and no answers from our young learners

Asking a child how they came up with the idea of whatever they are doing. Also, asking them what else they could do with the toy and supporting their ideas. This helps them to think critically and use their imagination.

One creative way to get children engaged in active, meaningful learning is by asking them open-ended questions instead of just giving them facts. For example, if we’re outside collecting leaves, I might ask, “Why do you think some are red and others are yellow?” or “What happens to leaves when winter comes?” This kind of questioning encourages kids to think, wonder, and problem-solve instead of only memorizing. If I tell them why there are some red and some yellow leaves it leaves no room for their own interpretation and ideas. Another way is to connect activities to their real experiences, like talking about pets, weather, or favorite foods, and letting them share their own ideas. These strategies make learning hands-on and personal, which helps children stay curious and involved.

Providing them with different activities is a great way to help stay engaged in meaningful learning. Such as having hands-on learning, active listening learning, or reading. Providing different ways to approach an activity is great for those students who learn and different ways and paces. It’s important to include all students so that they can actively engage in these activities.

That’s a fantastic question! Creative and meaningful learning arises not just from innovative activities, but from a thoughtful approach to play that sees every moment as a learning opportunity, connecting with children at their own level.**Use “The Great Outdoors” as Your Classroom** The natural world offers a wealth of learning experiences across various subjects.**Mathematics:** Launch an exciting scavenger hunt where children collect a specific number of items, like “three leaves” or “four rocks.” They can also sort treasures by size, color, or shape.**Science:** Set up a bug observation station with magnifying glasses. Discuss weather changes, the fascinating interplay of shadows, and the basics of plant growth. A simple nature walk can evolve into an engaging exploration of the environment.**Literacy:** Encourage creativity by having children use sticks to form letters in the soil, or create “story gardens” where they tell tales using natural elements, thus bringing their stories to life in the great outdoors.arying size, vibrant color, or intriguing shape.**Science:** Create an enchanting bug observation station equipped with magnifying glasses, allowing young explorers to delve into the captivating world of insects. Discuss the nuances of weather patterns, the wonders of shadows dancing across the ground, and the marvels of plant growth. A simple stroll through nature can morph into an enlightening study of the environment, awakening curiosity and fostering a sense of wonder.**Literacy:** Inspire creativity by using sturdy sticks to trace letters in the soft earth or nurture storytelling skills by crafting “story gardens.” In these imaginative spaces, children can weave tales using natural elements, bringing their narratives to life amidst the vibrant backdrop of the great outdoors.

To engage children in meaningful learning, I should use materials that reflect the background and practices of the children and their families. The activities should develop their social skills, knowledge, and encourage critical thinking.
