First of all, it helps to ensure that child is on track and catches any red flags. Second, it allows the caregiver to look for any patterns. Third, it helps the caregiver to be aware of any strengths and weaknesses so they can formulate a plan. Lastly, it helps the caregiver to be aware of how the child best learns, and what they enjoy so they can individualize a plan for the child that will help them love learning.

The more you observe a child the more you will understand who they are. Then, you will be able to adjust what/how you present information to them. Recording your observations will allow you to go back and see progress or lack of progress which will help inform you again how to move forward. It is also great to have the records in case special services are needed for the child later on.
