Observing a child’s development and building individual relationships with each child is critical in order to evaluate best how that child is progressing toward key milestones for their age, and determine what kind of strategies or connections you can make with that child to ensure success in the classroom, and to be able to determine further how you could interact with that child based on their progression.

    Observation of a child can:

    • Help an educator better understand why a child might be having challenging behavior
    • Identify special needs
    • Better understand the child
    • Allows for documentation of skills
    • Shows the child’s communication style
    • See what their interactions with their peers are like

Observing and documenting the child’s growth is important, because the caregiver can plan ahead to help the child achieve the child’s checklist depending on the age of the child. For example, a child at 5 months should be able to look at the caregiver and responding to the caregiver. If the child did not shown eye contact to the caregiver because there is too much noise in the house then, the caregiver would need to plan and see another way to get the child to make eye contact. In this case the caregiver can try walking into a quiet room and try again to see if the child is now able to focus and give eye contact to the caregiver.

Observing and recording data in early childhood classroom settings is helpful to see patterns of learning and development. It allows Teachers to see areas of progress and areas that the child might need additional support. Documentation helps to keep track of the progress and makes it easier when communicating with parents and caregivers at home.

Observing and documenting a child’s development helps early learning providers so that they know where the child is in development and growth and if the child knows the things that they should know at their age or if they need extra help. It also helps you to better understand the child, the way they do things and why.

Observing and documenting helps early learning providers to understand the strengths and needs of each child. Having that information allows for the provider to build a curriculum that best assist the needs of each child.

How does observing and documenting a child’s development help early learning providers?

By observing and documenting a child’s development, we can use this information to shape our instruction and care. Additionally, by observing their progress, we can provide scaffolds that help them meet developmental goals and milestones. Finally, through documentation, we can track our students’ progress and growth over time and compare it to earlier skillsets.

observing and documenting a child helps the teacher/caregiver get a better understanding of that individual, each child is different, it can give insight on where they are excelling and where they could use some help, gives insight to how they interact, their learning styles, etc. knowledge of the child helps the teacher/caregiver create steps for the child to reach that will be achievable while still helping them grow in the right direction

Through meaningful and detailed documentation, <g-bubble jscontroller=”QVaUhf” data-ci=”” data-du=”200″ data-tp=”5″ jsaction=”R9S7w:VqIRre;” jsshadow=””>educators</g-bubble> are able to see patterns and plan age-appropriate activities, gain insight into how a child thinks about the world, and provide opportunities to change the learning environment to promote growth and development

By observing and documenting a child’s development, it helps early learning providers like me understand and communicate with the child on their level based on how and where they are at in their development journey. And it helps if extra help is needed if they are “behind”.
