WAC 110-300 provides a framework that not only standardizes child care practices but also promotes individualized attention, family engagement, and continuous professional development,

The WAC doesn’t surprise me actually. It makes sense that there are as many rules as there are. In this current US administration though, I’m happy to see there are still diversity statements.

I don’t feel surprised. These many rules make sense. WAC offers standardized child care practices. It will influence my habit of caring for children in a good way.

It didn’t really surprise me cause it all felt understandable. It puts emphasis on how childcares should be run and outlining rules about different age groups and what the day to day should look like.It impacts the day to day by stating what the regulations for different age groups and locations should be

An individual or entity that provides child care and early learning services for a group of children, birth through 12 years of age, must be licensed. Not much about the WAC’s surprised me, the WACs help provide structure and safety, which should be affecting our day to day duties.

I discovered just how many requirements and restrictions there are to work in the early learning community. It does surprise me a little on how often we need to update and work on all the requirements each year. I can see how the WACs will influence my day to day practice in caring for children because I will be frequently refreshing my memory of what I need to learn to be an early learning educator.

Something that surprised me was the fact the department can license a home if its used exclusively for children during operating hours. Day to day I feel I can easily uphold these licensing requirements. Also, I discovered most early learning ends around age 12.

Katie, great insights! It’s interesting how licensing can impact home environments and age limits in early learning. Keep reflecting on these influences!

I was not surprised by the WAC codes nor their enforcement/ standardization. This is an important step to improve upon the current standards and practices in the field. As well as setting a baseline standard for conduct in the field. I already see WAC being used, from regulating what material is allowed in infant carts, to how many children can be in a classroom. These standards are set to keep kids safe

The WAC is very comprehensive and necessary for everything related to early childhood education. I was not surprised because it all felt understandable. I think the WAC was very helpful in helping me understand my role and responsibilities.

I’m not surprised about the rules for a professional childcare but I never knew about the requirements for childcare ran out of a home.

I discovered that there are a lot of different codes. I was surprised that some even had to be made into codes. I did learn a lot about how these codes will influence my practices every day while I care for children in my care. These codes are very important in keeping children and their families safe.

While reading the WACs, I discovered that they were way more in-depth about the fine points of childcare in the state than I expected. For example I didn’t realize that licensing was required for children all the way up to 12 years of age. For WAC 110-300, I was surprised to learn that the four-hour rule for licensing for preschools was a maximum for the day. If over four hours for preschool students, the program must have a license. This was surprising because I had never realized that before, and also do not know if my child’s preschool meets this same qualification because it is a private school. I was also surprised that programs in people’s homes must also be licensed. I do see how these WACs will impact my work with children, because many of the ones I read and found were not what I was expecting for it to include. On the other hand, there were others that I do not think will apply to me for now, because I am not in charge of employment or licensing of the center at which I work. In the future though, this may be helpful knowledge so that I can participate in hiring people.

I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs, but I’m glad I looked over them. They all seem like things that make sense but I might forget or not think about had I not carefully studied them, like postings or saving records.
