MemberJuly 8, 2025 at 9:30 pmI was not surprised by the Wacs it makes sense to have these put in place and followed for licensing to protect the children and also to enhance their growth. its all about higher quality education so these subdivisions to make expectations clear to maintain safety and growth and meeting needs makes perfect sense to me

MemberJuly 8, 2025 at 11:07 pmI’m not surprised by these parts of the WAC. MyMom has done daycare since I was little boy in centers and home. The WACs can be confiding and sometimes seems like it’s left up for interpretation and isn’t always to be point which can cause issues if one person reads it one way but then the licensor or director interrupts it another way. I was some would be more specific so less centers/people would get in trouble when they aren’t intentionally breaking the rule.
-
Caitlin, your insights on the WAC’s ambiguity highlight an important challenge in childcare regulation. Clarity is essential for consistency!

MemberJuly 10, 2025 at 8:44 amWhat i discovered is that these WAC regulations ensure diversity and inclusion of any children no matter what background get treated as they should, fairly. As an early childhood provider, it is important to have these WACs as a refresher on what we are educated on while earning our STARS and education about children. this will influence my professionalism and keep trust between me, and parents as well as students.
-
Great insights, Thalia! Your understanding of diversity and inclusion in WACs highlights their crucial role in fostering a supportive learning environment.

1. While doing this activity, I discovered that WACs are not just rules, but detailed guidelines that help create a safe and structured environment for children and staff.
2. No, I wasn’t surprised. I expected the state to have clear rules and high standards for programs that care for children. While I hadn’t read the WACs before, the content matched what I assumed would be required to protect children and ensure quality care.
3. Yes, definitely. As an administrative assistant, I now see how the WACs affect things I do every day like organizing staff files, ensuring training deadlines are met, keeping child records updated, and making sure postings are visible and accurate.

MemberJuly 14, 2025 at 10:21 pmThe WAC’s will influence day to day practice in caring for children because there are many laws, regulations, and standards that help children learn, grow as an individual and help low income families with resources that allow their children to reap in the learning and engagement of other children and staff in order to learn and grow as well.
-
Great insights, Nyssa! Your understanding of the WACs’ impact on supporting children’s development and families is very insightful.

MemberJuly 15, 2025 at 6:57 pmI discovered that WACs are highly specific and cover a vast range of topics all the way from licensing to policies regarding safe sleep practices and record keeping. I wouldn’t say I was surprised by any one WAC in particular. However, I was surprised how many topics were covered by WACs. It makes sense to me in hindsight that so many areas have to be clearly written out to avoid any harm coming to a child, staff member, or family. I could see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day tasks as things such toddler care, record keeping, and even bathroom spaces fall under a WAC. Some of the WACs that relate to licensing will be less relevant to me at this time as I will not be in a management position.
-
Great insights, Megan! Your understanding of the WACs and their comprehensive nature will certainly enhance your daily practices in childcare.

MemberJuly 15, 2025 at 9:53 pmIt was insightful to see the thought behind the WAC and the resources that are available not just as providers but for the families use as well. It wasn’t really surprising to read as it all seems to have been in place thoughtfully and reasonably. There were aspects of it all that felt as though they could be relevant on a day to day basis and it sets us, as providers, up for more success when we understand and abide by them
-
Great insights, Madison! Your appreciation for the thoughtful design of the WACs highlights their importance in daily practice and family support.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? While reviewing WAC Chapter 110-300, I discovered that the WACs are very detailed and cover almost every part of working in early learning—from health and safety to how we guide children’s behavior. I didn’t realize how many rules are in place to protect both children and staff. It helped me see that working in licensed child care is more than just “watching kids”—it’s about following specific standards and creating a safe, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment.<div>2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?Yes, I was surprised by how specific some of the rules are—like the exact number of children per staff member (ratios), or how often certain things like handwashing and sanitizing need to happen. Since I’ve taken care of my little sister for years, I’m used to doing things more naturally, so it was eye-opening to see how much structure and planning goes into licensed care.</div><div>3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?Yes, I definitely see how the WACs will guide my daily work. They set clear expectations for things like supervision, safety, communication with families, and even how we interact with kids. Following the WACs helps make sure all children are treated fairly and kept safe, no matter who’s caring for them. As someone just starting out, I feel like the WACs are a helpful guide to learn what professionalism looks like in early learning settings.</div></div>
