The WAC did not surprise me as much as I thought it would and I personally felt like it was very understandable. However, it does surprise me how often we as childcare professionals must work on and update all of the requirements every year. Personally, I have never worked with children until very recently and I feel that learning and understanding the WAC itself will definitely influence my day-to-day practice in working with young children as it provides a clear outline and framework needed to help me care for the children in my care. It also helped me with clearly understanding my roles and responsibilities. By working on and updating the requirements every year, I believe that doing so will help refresh my memory on the WAC and with understanding the importance of my role as a childcare professional.

The WACs that are in chapter 110-300 are all relevant to rules and regulations for childcare centers. including licensing requirements. They are each about very specific rules as the scope of a WAC cannot be large. I was not surprised by any of the WACsI ca see that the WACs will affect the day to day of working at a childcare center that i work at but most of the WACs are built into the polices so mostly I will not be thinking “Pursuant to RCW blah blah blah”

I am not surprised by any of the WAC’s. I think that in a such a field as childcare, it is necessary to take many precautions and have many standards. I think it’s important to know the WAC’s and to implement them into your work everyday. I see myself using these codes every day in the classroom whether that be keeping a healthy and clean work space or making sure we have the right amount of students in our classes.

While completing the activity, I discovered that the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) are much more detailed and comprehensive than I originally expected. They outline not only safety and licensing requirements, but also expectations for curriculum planning, staff responsibilities, health practices, family communication, and overall program operations. I also realized that many WACs are designed to protect both children and educators by providing clear, structured guidelines for quality care.

    1. The department must not license a department employee or a member of the employee’s household if the employee is involved directly.2. No.3. Yes, I see how the WAC’s will show up in my every day practice when it comes to maintaining safety, upholding ethics, preventing bias and hazards.

    1. I realized the WACs are way more detailed than I expected. They cover everything from safety and supervision to health practices, staff expectations, and even classroom environments. It showed me how much thought goes into keeping child care programs consistent and safe. It’s not just random rules everything is there to protect kids and support staff.2. I wasn’t necessarily surprised, but I didn’t know how specific some of the rules were, especially around supervision and health requirements. It helped me understand why certain things in child care have to be done a very certain way. It made a lot of the daily routines make more sense.3. Yes, definitely. The WACs basically set the standards for everything we do. How we supervise, how we handle safety, how we guide behavior, and even how we communicate with families. Knowing the rules helps me feel more confident because I understand what’s expected and why.It also makes it easier to stay consistent and make good decisions throughout the day.

I discovered that there were so many codes and so many regulations in place and I found it interesting that some things even had to be made into rules and standards. I wasn’t really surprised by any, but I did find it amazing that centers and programs are required to keep records of everything for many, many years. This is important though, because everything that happens in a childcare center is designed so that children and their families are well taken care of and safe.

I believe that the WACs is a spitting image of how we should be looking after the children . I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs only because we are talking about children care here , and when it comes to children’s care I don’t think there’s ever to many precautions that you can take or be knowledgeable about. Of course I can see how the WACs can influence my day to day practice in not only bettering myself but, becoming better for the children after all they are our future.

It makes total sense to me to have to many rules and regulations in place. It creates a space where everyone involved should be on the same page. It makes communication easier and its helpful to have something so clear to reference.

The WACs clearly outline when a license is required, who must be licensed, and where childcare can legally take place. They make sense and aim to protect children by providing a consistent standard for quality childcare, whether in a center or family home. I wasn’t surprised by the WACs, but it was interesting to know that Department employees involved in licensing aren’t allowed to license themselves to prevent conflict of interest. Yes, the guidelines will influence my childcare practice and help create a safe environment and experience for both children and families.

Because I work part time and only in music in the pre-k it was a good refresher to see all eighteen sections of the WAC to know everything that is being done in the classroom by all teachers and volunteers to make it a safe and positive learning environment.
