MemberJune 26, 2024 at 4:15 pmIf I suspected child abuse or neglect, depending on the reason I would ask the kid where the bruises or injuries came from. If I further believed it to be a case of abuse or if the child says it was, then I would go to the director and request assistance in filling out the report.

speak to the child, speak to leadership and then report to CPS

I would talk to the child by asking what happened. If it is serious that is related to child abuse, I would immediately report to the director to get CPS involved.

MemberJuly 8, 2024 at 5:35 pmI would first document what I noticed and bring my concerns to my lead teacher, who has lots of experience in the classroom. I would then contact CPS if she agreed it was an issue. I concur that antibias and antiracism trainings are crucial for all mandated reporter situations, and should be implemented as part of anything concerning the involvement of law enforcement.

If I suspect a child abuse, first I will check with the lead teacher if she also thinks the same if not will ask her to monitor the child and they will will inform the admin about it and ask help to connect with CPS and document it.
-
If I suspected any form of child abuse, I would document it and file a report with CPS. I will have a family home daycare and will not have any other staff member or director to talk to about this. I am not trained to interview children, so I would need to have CPS step in.

Document everything, call cps, provide documentation to my supervisor.

MemberJuly 17, 2024 at 9:13 pmIf I suspected child abuse I would:
Remain calm. A child may retract information or stop talking if he/she senses a strong reaction.
Find a private place to talk without interruptions.
Put the child at ease by sitting near him/her.
Ask permission before touching the child. Touch may be associated with physical or emotional pain in children who have been physically or sexually abused.
Reassure the child that he/she is not in trouble.
Use the child’s vocabulary.
Support the child: “I am sorry that happened to you.”
Do what you can to make certain that the child is safe from further abuse.
I would inform the local law enforcement.
-
If I suspected child abuse or neglect I would contact my lead and director to know I am following proper protocols and policies. From this I would move forward to reporting to CPS.

MemberJuly 19, 2024 at 7:52 pmIf i were to suspect any type of abuse, neglect or exploitation I would talk with my supervisor to see if I could make the call to CPS even talk to the kid even more if they were to be saying things more about the abuse that they saif or even ask if there are any types of marks on them on how they got them just to get details on what to say when I make the call if it is necessary to

I would document everything I know about the child and their family before calling CPS to make a report. I would only relay facts of what the child told me or what it is I observed that caused concern.
-
If I suspect abuse, I would contact CPS and provide as much documentation as possible. Any further interviewing or investigation will be done by CPS.

MemberJuly 28, 2024 at 4:23 amUpon seeeing signs of physical, sexual, or mental abuse, and or child neglect, I would have to call CPS to report whatever concern I was having with that child and their life at home. Whether or not you believe the incident or situation is accidental , it is not up to you to decide that.
