If I suspected the child to be abused or neglected, I would take such concern seriously and into immediate action. Being a child care provider, I am a mandated reporter; hence, I would directly report my concern to Child Protective Services or the authorities on the spot as per requirements enacted by Washington State. I will document only what I observed or said by the child in factual, objective language and not make any assumption or personal investigation.I would then follow the reporting procedures of my program to make the report to the director while maintaining confidentiality and continuing to support the child in a calm, caring, safe way. My first concern would be for the safety and well-being of the child.
-
Great job, Cayleigh! Your thorough understanding of reporting procedures and prioritizing the child’s safety is commendable.
