Can you think of an example of a person who had a significant early childhood experience that impacted them in the future, whether good or bad?

I think back to when I was in childcare. I had some behavior issues that caused the teachers to shame me for things I didn’t understand. It wasn’t until I got older and worked with children myself that i learned those behaviors I had were normal and now, I try my best to approach that behavior in a kind and understanding way.

I had amazing early childhood teachers and because I had fun and felt cared for I wanted to give the same care to others which is why I became a teacher

A friend of mine had two children, Kylie was 8 years old and her little brother was 6 years old. As she waited at a bus stop with them one morning, an older man drove by in a pickup truck and began yelling nonsensical obscenities at them as he kept driving down the street. Kylie was frightened, became more introverted and quiet and was fearful of leaving her mother’s side for years. Her and her family went to therapy and she’s a thriving adult today, but that one event had a profound effect on her childhood and development.

When my son was in preschool his teacher quit. She left without saying goodbye or letting the children know she was leaving. It was a big disruption to the school. Some families left. I think the school handled it well and helped the children through a difficult situation. It ended up being a great school year

My ex-husband grew up in a family that was very unhealthy. His mother was narcissistic and emotionally immature. He has many memories of her demeanor and words belittling him. Unfortunately, it affects him even as a grown-up. He reflects and even defends the narcissism. His own emotional development was stunted. He ended up following his mother’s modeling and I found myself in an emotionally abusive marriage. It got so bad I had to take my young girls and get out. We are now divorced and co-parenting. I am now very aware of helping my girls cope with an emotionally unstable father and healing myself and my girls.

I have had a positive experience with my first ever daycare provider when I was young. I am still in contact with her today, she helped me feel safe and seen when I was scared to leave my mom everyday. And she always gave me time to warm up.

When my daughter entered kindergarten and the teacher she had was so bubbly and happy and always reassured her. It turned into the best first experience for her leaving mom and entering the school system. My shy daughter blossomed that year and it was a result of this smiling loving teacher.

As a child I had a head start teacher who I just adored she was so kind and sweet no matter what I never heard her raise her voice not once. She really helped me in a time when I didn’t have stability and that helped me grow up to be resilient whit everything I’ve been through

My brother experienced a difficult time in school, and rather than supporting him while he was struggling with assignments and course load, his caregivers and school got angry that things were incomplete and did not offer him help or peer assistance, etc. Therefore, my brother never graduated from high school because the school became too hard for him to endure emotionally and mentally, as he was often overwhelmed by his teachers and caregivers.

I know that children can sense when things aren’t right. They can see if you are upset and not feeling well.

My Dad witnessed some marital abuse when growing up, and it made him be uncertain/insecure with maintaining a relationship with my Mom due to this.
