GuestMay 26, 2025 at 5:45 pmMy favorite way to teach proper handwashing techniques is by doing a demonstration for my students and teaching a song that gives the directions as well.
-
Great approach, Zarina! Combining demonstrations with engaging songs makes learning memorable and encourages active participation.

GuestMay 26, 2025 at 10:54 pmI like to sing songs or practice counting, I also take the time to go over their body parts like fingers, palms, wrists, etc. as I find it comes in handy when they say something hurts, they’re more familiar and can identify better and more quickly.
-
Great approach, Jessica! Integrating songs and body awareness makes learning fun and promotes essential communication skills. Keep it up!

GuestMay 27, 2025 at 12:09 amUsing colorful and scented soaps that kids love, singing a favorite handwashing song, letting the kids choose fun towels or stickers after washing, using a timer or sandglass to make sure they wash long enough, turn it into a game or challenge, or use colored bubbles to make washing hands feel like playtime.
-
Great ideas, Emma! Incorporating fun elements like songs and challenges really enhances engagement and encourages curiosity in young learners!

Singing a song to both help kids engage, as well as to remember the steps to properly wash their hands.

GuestMay 27, 2025 at 9:41 pmI sing songs and use more colorful items (soaps, towels, mirror decals, etc.) and switch them out for each unit. I do this so that the kids have an easier time identifying each step, while also making them look forward to washing their hands!

GuestMay 28, 2025 at 1:18 amSinging songs, like Happy Birthday or a made-up song, helps make handwashing a fun activity for kids. Counting to 20 or 30 is also a good way to make it a fun, but learning experience.

GuestMay 29, 2025 at 2:02 amWe practice, A LOT! Singing songs like “Happy Birthday” or “The ABC’s” (or whatever other songs they love to sing) to ensure the children are washing with soap long enough to rinse the germs down
-
Great idea, Christy! Incorporating familiar songs makes handwashing fun and encourages children to engage and observe their hygiene habits.

GuestMay 29, 2025 at 6:12 pmWe like to sing songs with our kids when they are washing their hands. Mimicking the movements ourselves allows them to see what they should be doing in order to practice proper hygiene. Sometimes moving your whole body in a bit of a dance can make it a more fun experience while keeping them engaged with hygeine.
-
Great idea, Claudia! Incorporating movement and music makes learning fun and memorable, fostering engagement and observation skills in children.

GuestJune 2, 2025 at 7:53 pmI work with infants, so handwashing has been a really fun activity to teach the kids because they are eager to learn new things. The way that we keep it fun is that we stand/sit side by side with our kids and have them copy exactly what we do. We move our hands and fingers in fun ways to get the soap everywhere and do the same when rinsing off. Sometimes we will sing a song while doing this too.

GuestJune 3, 2025 at 4:56 pmTo make handwashing fun, I sing “Bubble, bubble” when they are washing their hands. When it’s time to rinse off, I tell them to rinse off the bubbles. Afterwards, I tell them I’m gonna check for bubbles. If all the bubbles are gone, I tell them they did a good job washing it off and give a countdown to turn off the water.
-
Great idea, Claire! Incorporating songs and playful checks makes handwashing engaging and encourages children to ask questions about hygiene!

GuestJune 4, 2025 at 6:56 pmThe children learn a hand-washing song. This song is posted on the bathroom wall beside the sinks, along with pictures, and we all sing along as we wash our hands.
