Use fun songs that last 20 seconds while washing hands; this teaches timing and keeps them entertained. “Baby Shark” song and ABC song

I think explaining the importance of washing their hands could get them exciting to wash their hands, using character soap bottles singing songs. Maybe rewarding them with a sticker or having a chart.

One fun hands-on science activity is a sink-or-float experiment. Kids picks objects, guess what will happen and test them in water. it gets them asking questions, making predictions, and observing results in a fun way.

Making it into a game is always fun. I also like using Glo Germ and showing them all the germs that they may have on their hand so they can be satisfied washing it all off.

I’ll ask if I can smell kids hands so I can smell the soap – most of them will just smile and turn around because they didn’t use soap/didn’t wash.

Oftentimes, I will set a timer and encourage my students to make the most bubbles. By the end, I go around looking at all their hands, and scream, “We all made the most bubbles, we get to eat now!”. So silly, but for my kiddos it works.

To make handwashing fun and engaging for children, incorporate music and movement into the routine. One playful idea is to sing familiar tunes like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” or “Baby Shark” with customized handwashing lyrics that last at least 20 seconds. Allowing children to create their own silly verses adds creativity and ownership to the activity. Another exciting approach is to turn handwashing into a mini dance party or game. Add music and encourage children to perform fun dance moves as they wash each part of their hands. You can even introduce a “handwashing superhero” routine where they strike poses and follow special moves to defeat imaginary germs. These playful methods help build healthy habits while making handwashing an enjoyable part of their day.

I would pick a fun song for kids to sing too while they wash their hands. Using this method would allow children to be excited while washing their hands.

You be joyous and sing a song while washing hands, even on your way to wash hands. If there is a mirror tell them as soon as they finish washing hands they can make some faces in the mirror
