It may take a lot to get the full attention of a child and to make it enjoyable for them to wash their hands. One idea to make it fun is to sing a little song that walks you through the process of washing hands. Or you could use stars every time they wash your hands.

I always thought sing a song is a great way to teach kids how to what their hands and learn the 20-30 second rule

Singing a song is a great way to keep children engaged with washing their hands – children and adults should be scrubbing their hands for at least 20 seconds and if you sing the ABC’s at the right pace, you can achieve that! Makes it seem like a fun activity versus a chore.

You can make just about anything go over smoother but having a fun song to sing along with handwashing. If that fails, adding colored soaps or even a cute child friendly theme over by the sink should do it.

Similar to the “Clean-Up Song,” having a designated hand-washing song to sing helps make sure children are adequately washing their hands. Also, reading kid-oriented books to the group about the dangers of not washing your hands and what germs are.

To make handwashing fun for kids, I turn it into a silly game. We sing songs like the ABCs or Twinkle Twinkle while scrubbing, and I let them pretend they’re washing away invisible glitter germs.”\ Sometimes I set a timer shaped like a cartoon character or let them race bubbles down the sink. I even created a little sticker chart every time they wash properly, they get a fun sticker. It turns a routine task into something they actually look forward to

My favorite hands-on activity to do with young children, is making slim. The texture and consistency of the slim make it an engaging activity for children. Making slime encourages children to be creative and to explore their imagination and express themselves.

my favorite hands-on science activities for children are exploring sink/float. last year, i did a “sink/float” experiment with my students where we filled a large mason jar with water and explored what would sink and what would float. we added things like oil, food coloring, glitter, sand, sequins, googly eyes, pom poms, and any little things we could find around the room to see if they would sink or float. the kids loved this experiment, and were practically falling over each other to get a turn to add something to our “mix”. asking the students why they thought certain things floated or sunk opened up a dialogue that lead to them asking each other (and me!) questions and trying to figure out the answers on their own.
