When I was in 4th grade, I have a mean teacher. I was scared to go to school because of her mean look.

I had a child who moved on to another center. A few months later I saw that same child. She came up with me, with a huge smile on her face, and said, “I remember you! I like how you smiled!” Made my day!

Young children look at your facial expression for social cues; ie; should I be scared, happy, etc.

Non-verbal communication can make every kid feel involved. Smiling at a child can instantly change their mood and make for a better classroom.

I remember when I was in Preschool and that was years and years ago although I can not remember what she looked like I can describe her personality down to the T because she always had a smile that was like a ray of sunshine on hot summer day. Her smiled would make me feel so happy and safe that I always felt intrigued and curious about life, although she never frowned she always turned my upside down.

Thank you Mrs. Betty (Holly Park Preschool Early 80’s to 90’s) for everything you have taught me, is part of whom I become to be in life. From your teaching I will do my very best to pass down what you have pass down to me, Knowledge is Power and Power is Love, the Power of Love.

Laughter is contagious, and a child that is happy is more likely to trust the adult who is also happy.

Nonverbal communication allows the child to feel secure around you and their environment. That relationship grows only with time and with each experience. That goes 2 ways.

Not all children feel love just because they have a home and family, anything we can do to make them feel loved and that we care can make them grow

When dealing with a child they look at your expression on your face. They decide if you are someone they feel safe with or if you are someone they want to stay away from.
