I would have a conversation with her, first acknowledging the problem and then asking why and lastly coming up with a plan to help support her. “I’ve noticed that you have been coming after hours to pick up your child, is everything okay? How can I help or support you?”

The WACs message regarding diversity and communication with families is that “families are the primary educators of their children”. With this in mind it is important to collaborate with families about expectations and self-assessments towards their children to best support their needs.

1. I discovered all the rules and regulations to be able to work in a childhood establishment, what records need to be noted and stored. The qualifications needed for specific childcare establishments and positions within the establishment (director, teacher, aide, etc.).
2. I was not surprised by any of the WACs, I knew most of them.
3. I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice by properly caring for the children and documenting what is needed.
