The kind of sleep equipment that should be used for a 2 month old infant is a safe sleep approved bassinet or crib with a firm mattress, that is clear of obstructions like blankets, pillows, or toys. Make sure any infant under the age of 12 months is placed on the back to sleep, as some infants are unaccustomed to stomach sleeping.

  • Some creative ways to get children more engaged in learning can include asking meaningful questions, implementing a child’s current likes and interests into individualized or small group activities like favorite animals, color, or food and creating activities based on specific developmental domains like music, art, writing, reading, and crafts.

  • I believe some tips to help create and maintain a strong daily routine are to include: meal times, small and large group activities (indoor and outdoor), nap times, quiet play times, and individualized exploration.

I believe that screen time may be beneficial for children older than 5 that have shown progress in developing their emotional, social, intellectual and physical developmental domains, without the presence of screens while in a learning environment. I believe that around this age is when children become a bit more aware to the outside world, the importance of technology, and its uses for education purposes. I do not believe that any amount of screen time for children under the age of 5 is beneficial in any way. This is because I believe that interaction through physical means is far more beneficial for children this age, seeing something directly in front of them is easier to comprehend than a screen that they cant touch, feel, or interact with in order to properly stimulate the brain.

I believe early learning providers can create a “serve and return” environment in their classroom by implementing the 5 step serve & return process. By providing an ample amount of activities for children to interact with during the day a provider has the opportunity to display different scenarios in which they can implement various learning experiences. By sharing the focus and responding to children’s cues of interest, a provider can further support and encourage the child to repeat the activity or name some objects that they are interacting with. Taking turns repeating the names of certain objects, names, colors, or animals will encourage the child to stay curious and consistent. By practicing endings and beginnings a provider will be able to properly recognize a child’s cues of disengagement with certain activities and when to move on to another.

WAC 110-300-0085 states that “an early learning provider must communicate with families to identify individual children’s developmental goals.” WAC-110-300-0030 addresses non-discrimination by stating that early learning programs are “places of public accommodation… and must not discriminate… on basis of race, creed, color, national origin, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, class, age, religion or disability.State law requires child care employees to honor all children’s race, religion, culture, gender, physical ability and family structure, and to provide families with information on their child’s progress in the center.Diverse dolls/toys that represent children/people of all race and genders.
