WAC 110-300-0160 states that An early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff. WAC 110-300-0325 states that early learning providers must maintain a climate for healthy, culturally responsive child development representing the diversity found in the early learning program and society, including gender, age, language, and abilities, while being respectful of cultural traditions, values, religion and beliefs of enrolled families.
- What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? WACs spread the message that it is important to stay engaged in the diverse backgrounds of every family as it shapes the social identities of others. WACs also highlight the belief that early learning providers are required to be responsive to diversity and differences in social identities to create a safe environment for children in general.

- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? While completing the activity, I discovered a lot of regulations that had not crossed my mind previously. Screentime and sleep (rest time) were things I did not think were regulated by state guidelines.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Though I was initially surprised at how many rules and how detailed they were, all of them are reasonable and are clear as to why they need those regulations in place.
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I can see how the WACs can impact my intentionalities and decision-making processes because there are potential legal risks that could be enacted from not acting within the realms of State regulations.
